Would you cut it up and part the sheet metal?
1 Attachment(s)
Here's the deal: I need to get rid of the cab that is on my chassis. I have a replacement cab, so my options are limited. Here' a pic. I've commented on it in numerous posts, before. The firewall is toast. The wiper motor mount is, well...gone. I have a replacement piece to allow for fixing it, but the rest of the firewall makes that iffy. The floor pans were replaced, as were the kick panels. Cab corners are good. Roof panel is good. Back glass is good.
I'm thinking that I could cut the roof off of it, like midway through the back window opening. the floor pan could be cut across the floor, in front of the seat mount hump, through the door openings. The dash is an air dash and is uncut. The rest of it, is just history. So, what would you do? |
Re: Would you cut it up and part the sheet metal?
Is the firewall toast on the replacement cab?? I think if I had to do a major cut and weld job from numerous points on both cabs to make one good one I'd maybe want to wait for a better replacement....that's if I've understood your question correctly.

Re: Would you cut it up and part the sheet metal?
pics didn't show...but post it on craigslist for the price you want....
...then if it doesn't sell, save the dash and roof and any other good areas for patching and sell the patches to people who need them... |

The replacement cab needs some minor corner work and a new rocker on the drivers' side. It's a non-air cab. There's a whole lot more work to make one out of the two, than to fix the replacement cab. This is the "new" cab. It's a non-air cab, but I like to roll down the windows and enjoy the sounds of cruising.
So, my thinking is that cutting it up and selling the panels that are usable is a better route to take unless someone has some serious skills and has a good firewall that they would want to use to fix this cab. It ain't gonna be me. I don't have the skillset or the tools to make it happen. |

Too bad. New cab looks nice :)

Do whatever you want to that cab except cut the dash. You will be crucified here on the board

I had a '69 that the firewall was rusted like that and when I tried to take it off the frame the firewall fell out of it. Salvage what you can and give it it's last rites...:) LockDoc |
