Drug another one home
5 Attachment(s)
One of the local schools had a surplus auction, got this 84 C20 for $300. Thank goodness we had the winch all hooked up on my trailer, I bought it site unseen and had no idea it was sitting on flats.
Numerous guys in the bus barn swore it ran fine when it was parked a few years ago, so hopefully it'll fire over for me when I get a chance to tinker with it and I can turn it for a few bucks. That or I will find a plow for the front of it and let her sit 10 months out of the year and work on keeping my lot clear of snow in the winter. By far a cream puff, but if it actually runs and drives, for $300 I'm ok with it all. |

Re: Drug another one home
I could have had an 88 International school bus for $800, I thought hard about that but finally came to my senses.
I'm hoping she'll fire over with a fresh battery and some gas. Putting tires on it will way more than double my costs so far, gotta find some used ones. |
Re: Drug another one home
I've seen more than one school bus get turned into a rollback.

Re: Drug another one home
Not a bad buy, slap some tires on it, get it fired up, and you'll have a nice truck!

Re: Drug another one home
id have jumped on it too.. thats a great start for a truck

Re: Drug another one home
After all the snow we've had the last few years, and owning a business that I have to keep a parking lot cleared on, I'm seriously thinking of getting a plow for the front of it.
Sadly, I am clueless as to where to look for one or even what they cost or what I need etc. I'm already on the hunt for a set of used tires and maybe a right fender. Anxious for the snow to get here and start melting off (50+ degrees this weekend) so I can tinker! Need to go read that thread on tips to firing up an engine that's been sitting for a while. |
Re: Drug another one home
nice score Randy!

Re: Drug another one home
Spent the morning pulling the plugs, cleaning them and putting some marvel down in the plug hole. Was sort of a chore doing it while the truck is still up on the trailer. Got it done none the less (could sure use plugs and probably wires and probably rotor bug and .... well a lot), found the right upper control arm is really bent, must have hit something fairly decent on that corner once upon a time.
Anyways, got it where I thought it should spin easier, sprayed some starter fluid in, hooked up the jumper box and set it to boost/start, sprayed some more starter fluid in it and hit the key. Barely cranked over, but it did crank very slowly. :) Tossed in the battery from my winch setup on the trailer, and tried it again. It will start and sputter and die, so it's not getting fuel for one reason or another. But at least I know it will spin and fire! Just gotta figure out now if I want to keep her, part her out or just sell it off as is. Really thinking I might just put it out back for a while and see if I can get a good deal on a plow for the front of it or not. If I can, I'll just make it run good enough to plow my drive and black tag it. I spent almost $600 for snow removal in a one week time period this year. Might be a sign we're gonna start getting more snow during the winter and be worth it to have a truck just sitting here for that reason. Heck, might make a few bucks doing the neighbors commercial lots as well. |
Re: Drug another one home
Nice score! Now give it the love...;)
EDIT: gotta love the mint dog-dish hub caps on white steelies. |

Re: Drug another one home
Tank selector was on the Right tank, so I put 2 gallons of gas in it (showed past full on gauge, gauge must be inop). Still no gas coming out. :(
My body tech spent 10 minutes on it and had it purring.... The fuel line from the right tank was disconnected, so we switched to the left tank. Put 2 gallons of gas in that tank, removed the fuel filter right before the carb, and it gets plenty of gas. Obviously the filter is trashed, will replace that before doing much more with it. It smoked bad enough to fill the shop pretty quick with a thick blueish cloud, but she sat and ran without issues. :metal: Now to find some used tires. |
Re: Drug another one home
Glad to see the 4 speed transmission. That's what I'm partial to.
