69 Blazer - 2" TC EZRide Lift-Really Rough??
 

Gents,

I installed a 2" Tuff Country EZRide leaf spring lift (front and back) on my 69 Blazer. I also installed new 5125 Bilstein shocks. I chose Tuff Country due to the rave reviews I have on found on here and elsewhere about how nice the ride is. I've only put perhaps ~70 miles on it, but the ride is awful. I feel every single bump, expansion joints make the truck feel like it will leave the ground, and the front end takes a bit to settle down after a bump.

Where did I go wrong?

I know one rookie mistake I made was not lubing the outside of the leaf spring bushings with grease. I needed to get the blazer back together, and I only lubed the insides (didn't have a press or the right tools to get the bushings out). Would not greasing the bushings on the outside prohibit the leaf from functioning properly?

Do these leaves just take time to settle? Or is there something else amiss here?

First off, is this the first time you have driven the blazer (project truck) if so these things are pretty bouncy. If not and it is worse. It will settle down some, but I would double check with the manufacturer that the part numbers you installed are the right ones.

Are you sure it's the springs, and not possibly the shocks?

It's the first time I've driven this thing with the new springs and shocks. Previously it had the original (saggy) springs and some blown Ranchos. I knew it would tighten up, but I didn't expect this much. Unfortunately, I changed everything at the same time (I had too because of the lift) but I do suppose it could be the shocks.

Bouncing after a bump usualy is shock problem. WES

Update: I gave Tuff Country a call. They had me loosen the bolts on the pivoting shackles. That wasn't the problem, but it led me to the solution. I have some sort of leaf spring motion preventer (nice name huh?) It was touching the front leaf spring eyes. It looks to be in place to stop the leaf spring from completely flexing. It appears to be a 1/4" thick, but somebody made it using a cutting torch. I took them off, and the truck dropped about a 1/2" in the front, and rides SO MUCH better now. Are these things necessary?

The factory put some type of limit brace on the rear of the left spring. I always remove it, and promptly place in the "round file". I would toss yours as well.

The following thread contains the safety recall info on that strap and the rear bracket that goes with it. It's supposed to keep you in control of the truck if the spring eye breaks or the spring bolt shears off. The recall came out in 71. The earlier ones were dealer installed and yes they look like ass.

Do you have any pics of your Blazer with the 2" lift b/c I can't decide what to go with. Really I can't decide between 4" or 6" but would like to see a 2". With tire size plz.
