The old saying is "its only original once" .If its nice I would leave it . I would not paint my original paint 78 even though paint quality in 78 was not what it is today.
Post some pics so we can see exactly what you have there .Here is my orig paint 78.

Frank's truck is kind of the exception to the norm, but I would keep it original. My '74 appears to have been painted once, a long time ago. I buffed it out, and I plan on leaving it that way for as long as I can get away with it. There is a little rust brewing at the bottom, but it isn't that bad yet.

Keep in mind this advice is coming from someone that run a body shop.

Paint and body are the most expensive segments of building a project. If you can accomplish saving the original paint, thats money in the bank.

That, and if you're not bothered by minor imperfections that any DD would have. Leave it. Waiting on pics....

Agreed, leave the original paint on her if you can.

There is nothing wrong with repainting a truck if it needs it but like others said she is only going to be original once and telling folks she still has her original paint is worth some points in most people's books.

LOL,

That's for those who want the "Big Rig" look but just wanta use 1 stack to save weight for racing...

LOL!!!

As for the paint, it looks great. Just polish it, replace the trim, and work some good quality glaze and it will really bring the gloss out...

:lol::lol::lol:

That black and tan looks good, I'd keep it original, too... I'm struggling with the same issue, but mine has a poorly repainted fender and hood, so I'm leaning the other way!
