mail order chrome plating-cheap?

Who are my options for web based or mail order chrome plating? I want to send off my heater cover and few plates from my engine compartment to get plated, cannot spend a fortune. Need paint stripped, preped, chromed. Prices? Also, how long will it take?

Thanks,

Steve

It should be a lot cheaper if outside the US....the regulations that have come up over the last few years have shot chrome prices through the roof...

cheap & chrome dont go in the same sentence...Im sure Mexico is your best bet price wise. i bet the quality is better too with the EPA not in the way & all the right real chemicals still being used.

the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten

Chrome is just like paint, as far as quality and price. From cheap, to extremely expensive. And just like paint...you usually get what you pay for.

I wish I could say that. So far I've had three "Money is no object" paint jobs. All three were done by different guys that came "Highly" recommended. All three were second rate to say the least. The last job I had done was on my 71 Cheyenne and I paid over $4K for it with only minor body work. After I fixed all of the flaws myself, I'd rate it a 7 out of 10.

4k is not really expensive for minor body work & show paint. My Red/White '71 4x4 LWB would have been between 6 & 7k for minor body work and show paint, luckily I was able to swap work with the guy. I think anyone that saw it would tell you that the paint job was pretty much flawless. The guy that painted it was a hobbyist that painted in his two car garage.

To get back on topic there used to be a place in Houston that did pretty nice chrome work reasonable but I don't remember the name of it. I think it was on the west side. Maybe some of the area guys will chime in...

want to send my "yankee" cab lights out to Advanced Plating (recommended by the Powerblock) to be restored/rechromed. gonna cost an arm and leg, but it will be done right. only the best for my 72 burb c20 and these lamps were salvaged from my dad's 72 burb, so i say again, only the best! lots of childhood memories from the 80's!!!
