i recently acquired a 79 chevy c10 longbed

i cannot find the vin on the truck anywhere, i have a vin on the title but there's no vin i can find on the truck, not the doorjambs, not the dash, and theres no rpo sticker

if indeed the vins are gone from this vehicle can i get my money back from the guy legally?

i need to find the vin on this truck

Hi glhman222,

I believe 79 should have the VIN on the driver side of the dash.

The VIN plate shows through an opening in the dash pad. It's possible that someone swapped a different year dash pad into your truck and it's covering the VIN plate.

The 73-78 trucks had the VIN on the door jamb and no slot in the dash pad. And it seems like I remember reading that the VIN slot in the 81-87 style dash pads is in a slightly different position. So one of those pads might cover up a 79 VIN tag too.

Yes, I think you will have to pull it out to see if the VIN tag is hidden underneath.

Just the IP top pad (ie, the dash pad).

Pull the instrument panel cluster bezel, undo the screws on the passenger side and the whole dash pad should slide rearward and out.

hopefully the vin is there and matching id really love to keep this truck
