Anybody running a double barrell hood scoop?

I was just wondering if anyone was running a double barrell hood scoop like this one.

I know it's dumb but I just think they are cool.:metal:

Does anyone know how much room is between the top of your carb to the bottom of your hood on a high rise or standard intake?

Whatcha gonna run for an air filter?
Those are great for racing but not so hot for the street. Shoot, I even saw a guy suck a pebble through one that the other racer kicked up, that was some serious carnage!
They look cool, but they're not very practical.

They don't call 'em "bird catchers" for nothing!

From everything I've seen they come with airfilters.....?

If that guy was racing without a fitler he probably had no business on the track.... Plus if you only got half or 144th of it sticking through the hood your not dragging air or going to catch any 'birds' ;) You'll probably get just enough cool air without sacrificing drag. Now if you running a blower that's different.

Later!

Re: Anybody running a double barrell hood scoop?

I see very, very few guys running air filters on race engines unless they're a street-strip ride. The scoops the big boys run are built a good bit different than the one you pictured. The one I saw a guy suck a rock through apparently kicked it up with the front tire (altered roadster), there aren't many pebbles flying around at a drag race track.
Shoot, if you like the way it looks, knock yourself out! I have a polished tunnel ram in my shop that I'm hoping to be able to build something to set under, but I haven't found the right ride to put it into. Scoops and tunnel rams don't look good on every car, but they sure look right on the right ones!

I'm running a sb400 with a airgap intake and edelbrock carb. Does anyone know what the clearance is from the top of the carb to the bottom of the hood? (I dont have a hood right now or my engine in)

i'd like the double barrell hood scoop to only stick up about 2" above the hood. I dont really want a huge space on top of my carb that will look goofey but if my idea can work I'd like to try it out.

Re: Anybody running a double barrell hood scoop?

Im thinking on my big block I have 4.5 from the tbi to the hood but I have a preformer intake then a hot water donut then a airaid spacer so I'm thinking all that adds up to about 5" so you should have close to 9 inches or so

Re: Anybody running a double barrell hood scoop?

I think that is a pretty close guess. I think the shotgun aircleaner are like 5 or so inches tall if I'm not mistaken.

That means I'd have to have like a 6 inch spacer....:me:

Maybe I'll just wait to execute this concept when I build me a big block. There's no placement for displacement anyways!:metal:

Thanks guys!

One other thing you have to keep in mind is that the engine doesn't set absolutely centered, might take an offset breather.
Now, go get after that big block. And nothing smaller than a 489 :D

thats a fuel injection hat from enderle on what looks like a 6/71 blower not a FAKE air cleaner

I was under the impression that the OP was just lookin for pics of what one would look like. Fake or not (which cogged's setup surely isnt lol) wouldnt make a difference if your judging based on looks.

Yeah I dont care if it is fake, real, whatever I just wanted to check it out for future projects.

See where coggedbelt75's setup sits just above the hood and not 4 feet above the roof. I like that look. I would just like it about halfway above the hood if tolerances would allow.

Thanks guys!:metal:

Re: Anybody running a double barrell hood scoop?

^ Yeah, and run a gear drive so it would whine like a blower, too.

Just hope somebody doesn't call your bluff :D

I definitely understand the "future projects" bug - I have a gorgeous polished tunnel ram on the shelf, just can't afford to build the right engine to set it on!
