Original 67-68 Suburban trim pic

I was out shoveling snow today looking at the 68 and got to wondering if the trim was original. I looked at a few on here and they looked the same but I still wonder. Anyone have a picture of where the trim ends near the rear bumper and maybe a shot of the trim behind the 3rd door? Mine seams like it is short.
any info is greatly appreciated.

The one behind the 3rd door is a short piece, and it is the one I have been hunting for for ever!

I can take some pictures later if no one beats me to it.

Please do, Im positive that someone just put lwb trim on my 68. I know that one piece is like a unicorn, but a picture would help me know if mine is real or not. The plans are for the trim to stay so Ill have to make or buy the proper trim. LWB is too short so what are the alternatives. I cant believe that they arent reproduced.

You wouldnt happen to have a picture of what that piece behind the 3rd door looks like would you? Would it over lap or be a but joint?

Is the trim aluminum or steel?

How hard would it be to make a set from a lwb kit or 2? Would I weld then re-chrome? Or would I have to re-buff the trim?

Nope, long gone in the restoration process.

It fits into the wheel arch trim.

Anodized aluminum, with a single black stripe.

Unless you a skilled metal fab person, I would say it would be pretty difficult since it is thin aluminum. Welds will show after being anodized. (When I had mine repaired, they warned me of the discolored spots from welds needed for repair after anodizing. The finished result shows a discolored blemish.)

Just like how the rear meets the wheel arch then right?

So you had yours repaired? Was it costly to get it anodized?

I dont mind if theres a lil blemish, I can stand a blemish(well id rather have trim with a blemish than no trim at all  ). My good friend is a certified welding inspector and welds anything, so Ill have him do all the welding. I would think a nice tig weld would be the best way to go right? If they ever reproduce them Ill be one of the first to jump in line(if made with quality). Only reason I consider making a set is because finding a good set would be almost imposible, and the the burb looks way to good with it to take it off.

Yes, just how the rear trim fits into the wheel arch trim piece.

I had one repair on one of my wheel arch trim pieces, and it's gray compared to the shiny anodize. You wouldn't even notice it, unless I point it out to you or you are wiping it down.

At the time I had mine restored, it was very affordable for me; maybe a couple hundred bucks? But, with time I am sure the price has gone up.

Yea, I'm with you on the repro stuff. I'd have bought a new piece for the section behind the third door a long time ago if it was available. I even bought a door section, then cut it to fit but I muffed it up trying to snap in the clips to the body. So I have been thinking about buying another door piece, and again cutting it to fit the section I need then just use two sided body tape to attach it. I'm figuring that will suffice until I get the proper piece.

Thanks Vectorit,
Oh this is going to be fun. That piece on the 3rd door has a low spot for clearance for the door to open. That will be diffucult to replicate but I have a plan. I have two sets of lwb trim that arent in the best shape but will work perfect for a tester. It may look mickey mouse close up, but from ten feet it will be acceptable for me(till I either find a good burb set, or they reproduce them, hahah)

If we could come up with the pieces from the doors back, Mar-K is willing to reproduce them.....

That was one of my biggest disappointments when I figured out mine were from a truck. If they were original I wouldve sent them to Mar-K(I had seen somewhere you had said he was looking for a pair) If I ever do find some, I still will send him them to replicate.

And once I make up my set I will see if that will work as well for a template. He need everything from the front doors back too right? Theres a 68 for sale on cl that has complete trim, almost be worth it just to get it for the trim lol.

James at Mar-K is the guy to talk to. He is willing to make them, but needs a couple of the actual pieces.

I was going to buy a kit form lmc to work with because I didnt think Mar-k did moldings, but now Im going to get them from Mar-K, Idk about the LMC ones but Mar-K's are made in the USA, and thats what I like to see.

ps did I mention Mar-k's are 200$ cheaper too:smoke:
