Shaved door handle
 

I just bought the door handle shave kit By Auto lock. Has anyone done this on a square body? If so how about some pointers.

I used to work for AutoLoc... I have my solenoids mounted on the inside of the door panel under the arm rest. Water damage will void the warranty. I used a bike cable to route the cable to the lock,,, it works great!

How did you connect it to the latch? Do you have any photos? Thanks for the info on the water issues. The kit was from another site member, nib. I was looking for tips on install to help me save time.

I dont have a picture and my door panels are in place... but here is a quick illustration of what I did. I actually used a metal brake line to make an s-curve track for the cable so it would go from the outside of the door to the inside. If you connect the cable from the same direction as the rod, it works well. Use some adjustable cable clamps if you can find some at a hardware store but the crimp kind will work. With the adjustable, you can fine tune it. Leave some slack in the cable too instead of making it tight. I put some oil in the brake line for the cable to slide, but a bike cable housing would be better. I tacked some washers on the brake line for mounting to the door.

Try replacing the interior door handle rod with a cable as well, otherwise the door handle will move when you press your remote to trigger the door to open.

Another tip... the remote control module as a setting for momentary switch or 2 second between on/off.... find what works best for your door. I think momentary is what I used.

Also, consider a back-up plan to get in your truck. I have a emergency button, but I want to add a hood latch cable, because my battery goes dead while storing in the winter. Or leave your wing window unlocked til you work out the bugs.

Thanks for the good advise. You make it sound easy to install. I'll let you know how they turn out.
Did you use poppers or do the doors open enough on there own?

I'd look at a kit from AVS. With all due respect to Tow Me, the old style solenoids will end up causing you a lot of aggravation. I was considering complete door replacement on my S-10 due to numerous solenoid problems. A friend turned me on to the AVS setup, I couldn't be happier.

well heres the pics u will need if u have problems finding solenoid locations. this is the autoloc 50lb. works perfect and fits behind the door pannel. i did have to replace the inner door handle rod with a cable.

S10Fan, no offense taken. Everyone has good and bad experiences. I've bought other AVS products and had good results. Their door solenoids look like power door lock solenoids, but if they work great I'm glad to hear.

I installed my poppers like dustinjames showed in his response. I am satisfied with the autoloc 50,s. This installation keeps the system out of the weather. I will also place a vapor barrier on the door before I install the panels. You will also need to change out the bar on the inside door opener. They will bend if you don't remove them, use the bike cable setup on door latch. I used the screw type connector to secure the cable loop for future adjustment if necessary. I set mine up similar to Tow Me,s attachment document. You can get the lug at Home Depot in the electrical dept. They are for a #6 ground in a breaker box.
