Installing A/C

What's the best/cheepest route to go when putting ac in a truck that only came with a heater? My brother's friend bought a "kit" that was decent price and a super easy install. Summer's coming to an end, and it's getting hott.
By the way, i have a 4.1l l6, what compressors can i use?
