Will they eventually stop making parts for old squares in the future?
 

will it be harder to find parts and restoration parts for the squares in the future as the trucks get older and less people have them?

I think it's going to get easier...Square bodies are up and coming...they have character, and you can still find them relatively cheaply.

it will eventually be harder because we tend to cannibleliz our own breed to make a wounded square better, but i think it'll be a long time before we start feeling the pressure:metal:

Gm sold an awful lot of these trucks. They arent going to become scarce anytime soon. The aftermarket is all over it. Parts are available everywhere and its growing

naw ! they made plenty of em and there very popular, the aftermarket world aint gonna let this cash cow slip by. these truck's are so versital. stock, lower'd, lift'd,,,, it dont matter they look good with a little work and look grate with a little TLC. they'll be around for years to come .

Ever since I got into square bodies I've thought it too bad no actual production numbers were documented by GM. Yet considering the aftermarket industry for these trucks it would appear one could almost build a new one just from the parts available from the aftermarket companies!:lol:

Except for frame, drivetrain and the cab itself it looks like most everything else is out there and will be for a very long time.:metal:

Would be an interesting piece of trivia just to know how much a "new" aftermarket square body would really cost, new body, new motor, interior, new everything except what has to be oem only to compare it to what a 2011 Chevy truck of equal size and capacity would cost these days. I suspect it still would be cheaper than a new one and a lot less complicated to work on...I know my 1-ton has a long way to go before it exceeds the price of a new one.;)

well you get a fiber glass body including cab (standard cab) cant remember the company off hand right now

I've spoken to The Truck Shop about when they figure they'll start picking up in post '72 truck stuff. He said because there has been such excellent aftermarket support from day-1 it doesn't justify them getting into it. In other words,the parts are so dang available there's no need for another hat in the ring. But,I guarantee if the day comes when parts start getting scarce,the classic parts industry will hop right on it. Just like they did when the earlier stuff started drying up. By the '70s it was well known people were interested in keeping their rides alive longer "AND" the appreciation of earlier models had begun to grow bigtime.
