79 Fuel tank questions
 

What gallon capacity fuel tanks came on a dual fuel tank truck? Also whats the biggest dual tanks I can put on a 79 in the stock locations. Changing out the tanks location is not an option.

They only made 2 different size saddle tanks 16 and 20 gallon tanks. I am sure if you allready have dual tanks you have the 20 gallon tanks. 20 gallon tanks were put on longbeds and 16 on shotbeds. 16 gallon measuring 42 1/4" long and 20 gallong measuring 56" long.

According to LMC, some longbeds actually had 16 gallon tanks, not sure the years. But, my 85 longbed has dual 16 gallon tanks. One leaks, so a single 16 gallon tank on a truck that gets 12mpg really sucks. I bet if you search, you can find a company that makes larger tanks that fit in the stock location. The tanks are so straightforward, I might just make new tanks. I can do it for cheaper than a stock replacement would cost.

You can swap over to Blazer or Suburban tanks and I believe them hold as much as 32 or 36 gallons.

I think you can also rig up some mounts and staps to use the 89-98 tanks.

Suburban tanks are 25, 31, and 40 gallon. 25 and a 31 gallon fit in a truck but you need to modify to fit it behind rear axle between frame rails.
