Pro street

I need some help, I need some advice on how to move the leaf springs inside the frame rails so we can put some big honkin tires on his truck. I figure to box the frame and swap the spring perches side to side. Any ideas or any links would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Pro street
How big do they have to be ? You can buy a 15x12 wheel with 7.5 backspace and run a large drag radial (315/60 or 65 I do not remember exactly which one my brother-in-law is running) or 29x15.5 Mickey and you only have to move the tubs . You can leave the leafs where they are . Any bigger and you will have to move the leafs inboard.

Frank, Will this combo still tuck inside the outer fender edge for say a 6 or 7" drop ? Thanks |
Re: Pro street
A guy I know moved his springs inboard. He took the right spring and moved it to the left inside, and the left to the right inside, and boxed the frames. But he also narrowed his rear axle, If you don't narrow the axle the handling of the truck suffers.

Re: Pro street
Are you after looks or performance? You could run a quality traction devise such as Cal tracs and hook better than your stock suspension with fat tires.

Re: Pro street
I don't know about the OP Jeff, But I'm thinking more for looks. I'd like mine to look as good as it sounds, It would never see as much as a burn-out after sooo much time and money, Un-like someone I know.... ;)

Re: Pro street
Im want big tires more for the looks. The truck has a good engine but by no means a super high horse power engine. I scored a narrowed rear end and 15x7 wheels for front and 15x14 for rear with 31x18.5 15 for the rear for $500. jjgmc do you have a pic of your rear suspension set up. Im looking for cheap, not afraid to put in the work but low on cash.

Re: Pro street
That poor smallblock in the engine bay looks like a tricycle parked in a hanger.
You really need a big block if you want to pull the pro street thing off. |

That all depends on how nasty the small block sounds ! You've heard the saying "Dynamite comes in small packages" ;) |

Re: Pro street
Ain't no N/A smallblock that'll shake the fenders like a 540 or bigger. Add spray or boost to a smallblock and it'll keep up....
right up 'till the mountain motor gets the same...then the real thunder will ring from the pipes! "Hold her head, Luke, she smells alfalfa!" |
Re: Pro street
Well my son and i are building this for his first ride. I dont think 800 horsepower is a good idea for someone learning to drive, much less the gas prices.

Re: Pro street
:lol:My buddies dad has a 327 that blows 454's/460's put of the water, And that is Muddin, Every one looks and says o easy win, then they get smoked, he does have 10000+ in the motor, custom heads but still its a Small Block smokin a Big Block.

Re: Pro street
To each his own, they all have their place. Sometimes those little fellers wind tight and let 'er rip - in the right application a high revving horsepower type engine will take a torquey big block. But when it's torque that you need, cubes are where it's found.
I sure wouldn't give a kid a 800hp engine, a well built stroker would be ideal, though. We built one for my son's first truck, he has it in his second truck now. Plenty of power for a heavy truck but not a hotrod. It's amazing how well he treats this engine since he built it, he drives a lot like his old fart dad!:D:D:D |
Re: Pro street
Well the rule of thumb is there is no substitute for cubic inches but with that being said a buddy of mine runs an alchohol injected small block 400 pushing close to 1000hp last time we dyno'd it and ive only seen one big block that could come close to touching him running the 8th. He wont mention how much money he has tied up in it though. He can run the 1/4 in 8 flat hitting the rev limiter at 1000ft. I still like the sound of a well built big block though. LOL

I looked at my brother-in-laws truck today . There is 1/2-5/8" between the outside of the tire to the fender lip and at least an inch between the leaf springs and the inside of the tires. They are 15x12 Welds with 7.5" of backspace. The tires are 315/60/15 Mickey Thompson Drag Radials.
