Found an '81 2wd Blazer.... but
 

Howdy from Texas, y'all. A good friend has a Blazer that I am interested in, but it has a few ( mild ) issues. This will be my first adventure into squarebodied trucks, and I hope that y'all can steer me in the right direction.


The gas tank was left bone dry when parked in 2006 .

So, I guess my question to start with would be:
What is the best way to get the motor lubed-up to try to get this truck back on the road?

Not to be a tease, but it has the following equipment
3 Speed manual on the floor
Original Red plaid interior
Factory Tach, Cruise, blah blah blah
8" Rallyes
Rollbar in the rear by the back hatch
Original window sticker

GM replacement engine with all of the A/C goodies,
but the belt is off of the compressor.

It will be a $1,500 deal , and I am thinking that I mayyyy have
STOLEN this rig. But the fiberglass has seen better days and the
paint (red over white) has probably never seen wax....

still sounds like a great buy... i would change the oil, put gas in it, some seafoam in the gas... unplug the coil and turn it over a few times until the oil pressure gauge moves, then try to fire it up... 5 years is really not that long in 350 years...LOL

350 YEARS?! Must be the oldest 81 ever! LOL J/K Yeah thats what I'd do too. It really should be fine. We started a 67 Caddy with the origional motor that had been sitting over 10 years with no issues.

Thanks for the advice everyone! :metal:

My plan is to tinker with the Blazer where it sits,
and make sure the drivetrain is up to par before
I fork over the bucks.... should keep mama-drama
to a minimum.

Pull the plugs and squirt a little oil in the cylinders - not alot, but enough so that when your cranking the engine to get pressure up the pistons and rings get some lube too.

I don't think you should add seafoam right away. Let the motor warm up and run for 20 to 30 mins - then add some seafoam - you want all the internals nice and oily so that the seafoam doesn't knock any debris loose into the cylinder.

I would also flush the cooling system and change the hoses as a precaution - this way you wont have any leaks and you'll know that the cooling system is clean too.

Might even want to do a tune up on it too since it's been sitting for so long - cap, rotor, plugs, wires aren't that expensive and you can just use an air compressor to clean the air filter
