Antennas
Hey ya'll. I'm usually on the '67-'72 part of the forum, but I've got a friend that has an '83 and needs some help. He's always helping me, so I thought I'd return the favor. He has the hidden antenna and hates it. So, I thought I'd jump on here and ask what ya'll are doing for an antenna (aftermarket)? I think he's looking for a fender or cowl mounted one, but I know the square bodies can be difficult to mount things to considering the shape of the panels in the area where the antenna usually goes. Thanks.

Re: Antennas
I always buy the external factory stuff that goes on the fender. The suburbans had them but some trucks and K5's did as well. You can find all the pieces you need at the bone yard usually. Is a base, base gasket, base bezel, antenna mast and two cables and if you're lucky you can get the firewall grommet as well. Is an easy switch, I've never had luck with the antenna in the windshield.

Re: Antennas
Ok cool. Looks like I'm making a junkyard run during Spring Break. An NV4500 for me and an antenna for Jim. I'll probably come back with some other junk I don't need too.

Re: Antennas
my truck has the windshield antenna and had a little powered antenna booster in there when I bought it and it actually works ok. Too bad someone also cut a 1" hole in the back of the cab for one as well. I think I'd hide one in a stake pocket or something before drilling a hole in my fender.
