6.0l Build questions
85 SWB w/6.0l and th350 ford 9" w/3.89 gears and a detroit locker. Built for street and strip.
Here is what I am building: LQ4 or 9 Edelbrock Victor Jr w/elbow 1 7/8" primary headers Texas Speed Cam package cam info:232/234 .595/.598 112 Lobe Seperation. 1800-6400 RPM Power Band 100-150 shot of NOS Here are my questions: What throttle body(brand and size) should I go with and what size fuel injectors? What stall? What did you do for O2 sensors? Is it better to go with wideband? |
Re: 6.0l Build questions
not sure what to say on TB, but if you run DBW i think you are way more limited on options.
Without the nitrous, you are probably still within capability of the stock injectors. If you go with a wet system you can just upgrade the pump and allow the nitrous system to handle the fuel enrichment. If you go dry and want the computer to handle it, or just want to upgrade since you may outpace those injectors in the future. I went with Ford Cobra injectors which run round 39lbs at stock fuel pressure (i think they run a bit higher on our cars since the lsx uses a higher psi than the stock ford system). They use the EV6 connectors, as do many upgrade injectors so check what style is on your harness. If you have the delphi connector, your only real options are custom inj or the 8.1 marine injectors for an upgrade. Stock 02 are fine to have it run, adding a wideband is nice for diy tuning and monitoring afr. Probably not 100% needed if your tuner has a tailpipe wideband they can use to tune. |
Re: 6.0l Build questions
Definitly going with DBC. The elbow has a 90mm opening so should I just get a nice 90mm TB?

Re: 6.0l Build questions
If you are gonna run a carb style intake, run a 4150 throttle body and ditch the elbow. Those elbows are more suited for forced induction, there's lots of dyno proof showing them robbing significant power from n/a setups versus a 4150 tb. If you don't want a 4150 then you're better off with a factory style front feeder intake/tb.
For injectors, you'll be borderline with the stockers but they'll work. I really like the 42lb ford svo injectors for an inexpensive upgrade that are easy to tune and will feed plenty of power. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 6.0l Build questions
With the 4150 style throttle body, would I still use the injectors and fuel rails for fuel and the tb would just be for the air? I like this idea bc it gives me the semi "old school" look but still "new school" tech and fuel mileage. School me please.

Re: 6.0l Build questions
Yep, a 4150 style throttle body will just sit right on the intake like a carb would, but all of your fueling is through the injectors/rails. Something like this:

Re: 6.0l Build questions
Ok, I think I have most of it down but what about the tune? would I have to go to a speed density tune? What is required for a speed density tune? If not where would the MAF go? Almost not stupid with this fuel injection thing.
|
Re: 6.0l Build questions
It would be easiest to run a speed density tune. Just the factory MAP sensor in the intake, IAT , TPS and ECT sensors are the only things required to run SD. The rest is done in the tuning.

Re: 6.0l Build questions
Ok thanks again man!! I am torn between this and the Pro-Flo XT set-up.
|
Re: 6.0l Build questions
So I would have to still run an air intake (tube) style filter? Like what is run on the newer trucks? Or can I run and old school style air cleaner set-up.
|
Re: 6.0l Build questions
You can run an old style filter setup, just have to make provisions for the IAT sensor somewhere in it.

Re: 6.0l Build questions
Trying to map this out with my minds eye:
MAP=Manifold Absolute Pressure- has a boss in the intake IAT=Intake Air Tempature- goes somewhere before the throttle body? TPS= Throttle Position Snesor- on the throttle arm linkage whatever you want to call it ETC=????- Goes where? What's it's use? I have books on the way dealing with LS motors so I will be able to read more on all this and hopefully stop bugging ya'll with so many questions. This FI crap is blowing my mind!!!! Hopefully once I can get my hands dirty I will understand it more betterer. |
Re: 6.0l Build questions
By the way that Wilson TB you posted is beautiful and has a nice little price tag with it to.

Re: 6.0l Build questions
ECT = Engine Coolant Temperature
Wilson is very proud of everything they make......I have one of their $1k plastic intakes on my LS motor.:banghead: http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k5...370/370107.jpg |
Re: 6.0l Build questions
Thanks!! I couldn't for the life of me put that one together!!
