New Carb

Just swapped the quadrajet for an Edelbrock 600 performer. Runs great after hitting the throttle but sure idles rough. I hooks a vacuum gauge to it and set the idle mixture at high vacuum but still sounds like it has a race cam in it!!

Re: New Carb

did you mess with the air-fuel mixture screw?

Re: New Carb

Vacuum leak!!! What kind of adaptor did you use?

Re: New Carb

Used an edelbrock 4 hole quad to square bore adapter.

Where's the air-fuel mixture screw?

Re: New Carb

Re: New Carb

Could it be the float level? I took the vacuum plug off to hook the gauge up and it idled smoother.

Re: New Carb

The two screws are left bank-right bank. They need to be even. I would say turn them all the way in, then unscrew them 6 half turns each.

Can't find any vacuum leaks. maybe it ain't supposed to idle smooth!

Re: New Carb

If you have a vacuum leak, the gauge would tell you. Is the needle steady or moving? What are the RPMs at idle? Which tranny are you running? A 700R4 should have the angle correction bracket installed.

Re: New Carb

it has the 700r4 bracket. vacuum gauge is a little jumpy. sprayed ether around fittings and no reaction.

Did readjust float level and helped a little.

Re: New Carb

GO TO Edelbrock.com. They have a bunch of tuning videos for their carbs. Very informative.

Re: New Carb

How did you install the egr? mine was sucking air through the manifold and it ran super high and rough. If you need a block off for the egr take the spacer on the egr fill with jb weld bake at 400 for 30m and place gasket sealer on it

Just blocked off the EGR valve and it idle as smooth as the top of my head!! Thanks for all the advice!!

Re: New Carb

Yea, I run mine without the EGR valve!!

Whats the EGR tube lol

Re: New Carb

Glad it worked for you. The egr is just an obstruction anyway.
