Moog Comps and Deals
 

I thought I would post a thread about my efforts to buy all moog parts for the front end on my 72 C-20.

I have been comp shopping moog for some time. There are a lot of options on Amazon, Rock Auto and others. For the most part, the prices are relatively close (within 15-20%). The real kicker seems to be shipping and tax. Some websites don't charge either. All sites that I would consider reputable charge tax.

The best deal that I have found comes from Advance Autoparts. They have been running a special where you get 15% off your order of $100 or more, free shipping over $75 and a $50 gift card for future purchase. The kicker is that you can only qualify for the gift card once per promotional period. They have run the promotion once at the end of February, once last week ($25 gift card for that one) and now they just started another. Here is my breakdown so far:

Lot of money. Much more than other parts manufacturers. I see most people consider Moog the best. I like how they are made in the USA. I sure hope so.

Sean, nice write up, thanks. I use only Moog. Back in 2002 I put one of those "kits" in my 72 C10. I use it as my DD. 14 months later developed a shimmy, took it in for an alignment. Was told by tech that he could not align it due to worn out ball joints (2) and tie rod ends (3), and pitman arm. I bit the bullet and replaced all with Moog. Now about 7 years later and 65K miles still rock solid. One alignment last year. Cheers, Lee

i think i paid less for raybestos (splicer brand) from ECE.

Moog suspension are better and they do last longer. We never have comebacks when moog is used. Other brands never last near as long as even the factory stuff. Moog stuff usually lasts longer than the factory stuff.

I got Moog stuff ( ECE) on my truck when I rebuilt the suspension, when I got the wrong outer tie rod ends, I had to go local (Oreily) and the quality was noticeably different, I just waited on the new Moog tie rod ends, the truck rides and handles so much better.

Update:

Still have the two ties, pitman and one more lower shaft left to purchase.

All of my previous 3 orders have arrived. The quality of the parts is obvious. Cold forged, high quality, hardened steel. The lower shaft is one massive piece of hardened steel. Threads are clean cut and square to the part. The adjusting sleeves turn like butter on the the tie rod ends.

All of the parts are marked "Made in the USA" that makes me feel a lot better than buying a second class made in China alternative. I wonder if the guy who works at the Moog plant has a classic truck..... I know the guy working at the plant in China sadly does not.
