hugger orange paint code

Does anyone have a pic of a glove box door option sheet with the paint code for hugger orange? I need the pic from a solid orange truck, not one that was two-tone. I know I have seen hugger orange listed before, but cant find any glove box doors to look at.

Joe,

I have never seen the word Hugger spelled out on a SPID, but my Two-Tone truck Build Sheet shows W-HOR-W-HOR for the 458 paint code. My SPID calls it Red Orange. The PPG Paint chip chart calls paint code 524 Hugger Orange.

Take Care Joe!

Ok, so 524 is Hugger Orange, can someone show me a glove box door that says Red Orange? The Dupont doesn't show Hugger Orange, in '71 or '72, but it does show Red Orange, and I 'think' it was 524 also, but can't remember.

Re: hugger orange paint code

As far as I'm concerned the hugger orange that we all associate with 69 camaros is a different color than the one used on trucks referenced above. The truck hugger orange is commonly found as red orange (same code) and is a darker shade of orange (more red) than the camaro version. There is a truck code with the description of "orange" and it is more like the camaro hugger orange.

Here is a label with the orange code that I think is more like the Camaro Hugger Orange from 69.

That's good to know Joe.

But I would like to continue the thread for just one more question that may have been alluded to but not asked directly, nor answered....unless my beverage is interferring!

j ripper above shows a pic of an SPID with a 524 code for hugger orange (not sure what year or model)

My truck (72 C-10 SWB Fleet) has a SPID 524 code but is Red Orange.

How could the exact same code have been assigned to 2 different colors? Are they from different years of production? Or is it a change in name only?

For clarity's sake, I would have thought that if there was a change, even in name only, that a different code would have been assigned.

Just goes to show that GM prolly didn't realize at the time that there would be fanatics running around some 40 years later trying to get this stuff right!:chevy:

Lots of colors had multiple names. Always go by the paint code when comparing colors.

I believe 71 lists it as Hugger Orange and 72 lists it as Red Orange. I am not familar with the prior years though.

It's quite comical how many different ways GM wrote out options on these spids!! Here is mine, I didn't see it posted yet in this config. It's a 70 btw

Why do you say that? They look the same to me (other than the "dummy" placeholder codes, ie "1C60AA").

Now, my question: are there differences in the noun names between Chevy and GMC?

I am particularly interested in an "orangish" color on a '69 GMC -

Thanks guys! I didn't realize how "non-standard" it was. This thread certainly points that out!
