Operation Blackout

The beginning
This is my 1965 Chevy C-10 rust bucket! I have initial plans to do a complete frame off semi custom truck to be used as a driver not a show truck. I want it nice but and I want it very drivable. My plans are to rebuild the 327. I have a 650 edlebrock with an aluminum intake and a mild cam. I am ditching the three on the tree for a 700R4 automatic transmission. I already have 21/2 dropped spindles and disc brake converting to 5 lug. I am replacing all tie rods, ball joints, etc. I bought a new power brake setup with a complete set of stainless brake lines. I am also swapping out rear end for a 5 lug. Plans are to set it on airbags and run about 31/2 front and 5 in rear. I also removed the tank from inside and I am placing it in the rear. I am also placing the battery behind the seat and my fuse block for easy access. I have a complete new wiring harness. I have a 1990 tilt column that I am going to try and use, have not tried yet. Any advice or comments along the way are appreciated.

What are you using to remove the paint? It's been taking me way too long, im using a random orbital with 60 grit... just curious

Started with stripper but paint remover pads for angle grinder works best.

I have had a lot of rust rats working on this truck. I found a cab roof in Arizona and had it shipped. That was fun but mine was really ate out. I have had to replace floor, cab supports, rockers, cab corners and several hand fabricated parts. The cab is coming along though. I am replacing front suspension with 2.5 dropped spindles, disc brakes and air bags. I replaced the original rear with a 90 truck 5 lug with 3.42 gears. I hope to have it back together enough by this weekend to call it a roller again.

Can anyone give me details of putting in a rear gas tank or fuel cell. I have looked at Blazer, Fuel cell and Camaro. Any advice from someone that has had a good install please help.

Re: Operation Blackout

how far you planning on lowering and what do you want for fill options? In bed? Side fill? Rear fill?

If you're slamming and want side fill lakeroadster's tank idea is the best bet if you want an under bed...though I'd say at that point you're better off doing an in the bed tank or keeping the in cab tank. His sticks down the least (aside from some fuel cells)

Camaro is good for rear fill and a fairly easy install if you do it with the bed off. No modification to the frame aside from drilling holes in the cross sills to mount the bracket up. It's also the cheapest way to go. Only downside is that you have to convert the sending unit to work with our trucks unless you're going with aftermarket gauges that are 0-90 ohms

Can't really comment on blazer tanks

What year Camaro tank will fit and is there anyone else with photos that has done this install. I am lowering about 3.5 front and 5 in rear not going to be trying to set it in the grass. She is going to be a driver. I looked at your install K1, how did it work out?

Starting on front end and setting engine and transmission to check for drive shaft length. Needs 4" taken off.

I used a 99' camaro tank. Had to trim the bottom frame rail on both sides about 1/2" I think. Used mounting straps from a escort. And I have a 5" drop in the rear.
