Truck looks nice and worth the money if the "usual" rust is not too bad. I would definitely like to be able to look at it in person before bidding.

Trucks like that are all over. Same exact story, new motor (by previous owner, they have no paper work), runs and drives good, has rust spots, interior was cleaned but shows wear (duh, it's a old truck), A/C would work if you spent the $$$ to replace all the parts that were removed from it when it stopped working 10 years ago and needs a windshield.

If it were a 2wd, 1500 max, since it is a 4x4, 2000 max, and that would be if it drove out nice and was not in need of a front end rebuild or had any engine or transmission issues. The fact they put "C/K 2500" in the title, tells you they just bought it to resell and probably actually know very little about it.

I'd bid as high as $2000, but be'n on Ebay it will probly sell higher.
RandyP is right, them trucks with that description are pretty easy to find.
I just bought an '84 K10 4X4 with a 6.2 (25mpg) for $1500 in bought the same shape.

It all depends on what your intended purpose of the truck is. I think people "misunderestimate" the cost of repairs on these old trucks. (I was one of those people). If you can do all the repair work yourself and can get/tolerate used parts for the repairs, then a truck like this may be worth the asking price. If you plan a nice restored driver quality truck that starts and runs every time you turn the key, with good brakes/shocks/suspension/tires, etc., then you will be spending thousands of $$ in repairs/restoration. Even a passable paint job is not cheap. So, if restoration is your goal, you are usually better of finding one that someone else has restored and let that previous owner take the resale hit on the price. For $3500-$4500 you can find nice rust free semi-restored squares on the net, some are even unmolested originals. that is where I would put my money if I were to buy an old square again (I have owned 3 but have not learned my lesson yet.;)

I have a 76, I dig it. To me, rust is by far the biggest issue to overcome.

Thanks for the help. The problems is: I can't find any semi-restored trucks in the 3500-4500 range. Wish I could, I'd jump on it. I'm not handy at all, just love old Chevys. But I am looking for a semi-daily driver.

Bought my 85 K10 in January for $750. 350 is solid, edelbrock 600 carb, intake manifold, true dual exhaust, lsd in the rear. 6" lift, 35's seem almost new. Decent aftermarket rims. Minor rust, needs a patch panel in the rear corner of the cab. So far, new air cleaner and new fuel filter is the only thing I've spent money on. Paint is faded, missing some trim, that's about it... Daily driver, 12 mpg.

You won't find rust free trucks in the rust belt, but you can find them all over the West and Southwest. Even if you buy a lemon, a rust free truck has intrinsic value and you should always be able to get a good price for rust free parts. If you are not handy at all, then you should definitely not buy a fixer-upper truck - labor is likely $100 per hour in a good shop (or even in a not so good shop, as I have discovered.) If you have your heart set on an old square, why not search the net until you find a rust free example, have it inspected, then transported to you - maybe an extra $1000 but well worth it. You could fly out and drive back, but that risks a breakdown in the middle of nowhere, and with high gas prices and airline tickets a transport company is way cheaper. Regardless, expect to put money in even a nice old truck - old vehicles just wear out/break down and there is no getting around it. Just read what is posted on this site and you will see what can and does happen to an old square. It would be a good idea to take your time looking, since high gas prices mean these old gas hogs will be harder and harder to sell. Not trying to discourage you - just help you not waste your money.

I'm sure you can get someone to "look" at the truck, but I was thinking more along the lines of a "professional inspection" of the vehicle. For example, I know there are shops in Tucson that will do a pre-purchase inspection for about $150(?). This is not any guarantee, but they can check the main systems for defects and tell you how much you might be looking at in repairs. You can likely get a board member to direct you to a shop in the area of the truck you want to purchase. I suggest you look at Craigslist for various Southwest cities and see what is for sale. I would just type in "truck" in "cars and trucks" and select "private seller" - some people don't describe their vehicle very accurately in the heading of their listing. Again, remember even a nice truck will need some repairs - expect surprises.

i would probably say around 2000 but if it went any higher than 2200 i would have to pass. But yeah that color is really cool looking.

Yea I agree 1500-1800 maybe. I would keep looking though there are a ton of these trucks out there. Since you said ur not to handy I would look for a nicer one cause ur going to pay a boatload in repairs lol!

With all do respect....Where I live, there are NOT a ton of these trucks around, period. That's the frustrating part for me. I've been looking for quite a long time.
