Eagle Alloy 225's, 20". Do I need an offset?
 

Hey all, so on monday I'm going to bite the bullet and finally order these rims. Now I've already asked the backspacing question, and was told to go with a 5" on the front rims (20x8.5) and a 5.5" on the rear (20x10) now that part was easy but I'm not sure if I need an offset either? everything is stock on the truck (79 SWB Scottsdale) but in the future I will upgrade to disc brakes on the rear. Also I plan on doing a 3/5 drop on the truck as well. Thanks for the help, this just happens to be one of those items on the truck which makes me super nervous as i don't want to order them and they not fit when they get here.

As for tires I've been recommended to go with the 255/40-20's on the front and the 295/40-20 on the rear. Think that'll work with everything???

Backspacing & offset are different terms for the same thing. They both describe the dimensions of the wheels outer edge where the tire seats vs. the mounting pad for the hub.

An 8" wheel w/4.5" back-spacing is the same thing as an 8" wheel w/zero offset.

I used 8" front wheels w/5-5.25" back-spacing. The 5" keeps you off the a-arm lip more. The 10" rear wheel would be pretty close to the inner tub wall @ 5.5" back-spacing. It will fit but you'd have more clearance & still fit w/5.0 back-spacing.

I went with 20x10s on all 4s and with the 5.5 BS

its bagged, i can turn it almost full turn aired out, i have some 1in shorter a-arms i am going to put on so i can turn full all the way down.

wow that is one nice burb, and pretty much re-affirms my choice of rims hehe, So realistically I should stick with the 5" back spacing on front and rear then for ease of fit? or stick with the 5.5 in the rear as justpball doesn't seem to rub in the rear.

How in the world can you run 10" all around? I was going to do 5" front and 6" in rear,can you do 10" on the front?

Running spacers = less back spacing. This is why I suggested the 5"BS over the 5.5BS for the rear.

Thanks for the help, going to order the wheels tomorrow with 5" backspacing on all of them. Seems like that will be the best fit with some clearance.

I had 20x8.5" Coys w/5.25"BS on my 74 & they cleared the front fender lips w/o ever contacting. 5"BS would have worked on mine as well & would have required less trimming on the a-arm lip thus why I suggested it.

I haven't looked up the Eagle 225's so I'm not sure what BS options are even possible but anything between 5-5.75" would work. Anything less than 5" & you really have to watch the outer fender lip on >4" front drops. Anything more than 5.75" will start bumping stuff closer to the inside wall of the wheel well.

Pics of my 74 w/the Coys (20x8.5" w/5.25"BS) & one of N2billets 'Lucy' w/some Vintecs (20x8.5" w/5.75"BS). Both trucks had 255/40-20 Toyo Proxes up front.
