My 70, Project CST/10

Well, I might as well start this now. I had a 70 CST/10 a few years back and I have missed that truck ever since it got sold so I wanted to build another one but much higher optioned and using only 100% rust free original sheet metal. I have spent the last few months collecting parts for my latest build. So far I have aquired a totally rust free cab and doors from JoesJunk which are absolutely a time capsule! I also picked up a totally rust free short fleet bed and a totally rebuilt, lowered, and powdercoated chassis from my buddy HavinSomeFun! He has been cool enough to put it together for me for transport and keep it at his place in Florida until I can get there the first weekend in April. I am shooting for a sharp looking corner carver with big Billet wheels four wheel discs, static drop, and a stock looking exterior. More to follow once I get it back home! Hope you enjoy and I look forward to comments and critique.

Re: My 70, Project CST/10

Today I talked to my buddy who ownes TopCoat, a local blasting and powdercoating company and got everything set up for him to blast and undercoat the bottom of the cab and bed before I get them bolted down for good. Also talked to another buddy of mine who builds street rods for a living and he agreed to do the paint and body for me since I help him out alot. His only stipulation was I cant pay him a dime since he believes he owes me enough already! Sounds like a plan so far! I sure am glad I never took any of the money he offered when I go to help him out! I need to decide on a drivetrain and I am not sure on a color yet and will listen to all opinions. Maybe a stock looking high performance small block just to keep the old look? Who knows, maybe another LS swap is in my future! Sure will need to do something with those cab lights too!

Sure will man, you need to come by and get those trailing arm bushings anyway! I never knew it was so hard to pay something forward! Everyone who has seen the cab in person has told me how amazing it is, cant wait to get it home!

Well, 1,200 miles and 100+gallons of fuel later the new project is home. I left Friday morning at 8:00 and arrived at Kevins (HavinSomeFun) house in Tallahassee about 5:00. Got to talk to him a bit while loading up. Super stand up and very nice guy. (His stepside is killer too, post up man!) Had a nice uneventful LONG drive home to Raleigh and got here at 3:45 Saturday morning! I went over the cab and doors thoroughly and they are amazing! The bed i picked up has very nice sides and headboard but the floor was modified for a under bed tank and had some slight damage and surface rust to the floor here and there. I will be selling the floor and replacing it with a wood floor anyway. I only got a couple pics for now but there will be lots more later.

I'd say it looks great like it was the first time I saw it, but I'd be lying! I saw them weeks ago, but that is some really nice sheet metal. Enjoy, I look forward to seeing the build come together.

Wow, that is a great start. At the pace you work, this one will be done in a couple of weeks. I definitely smell an LS swap here! What are your plans for color? Looks like it is close enough to be black, from the pics.

Re: My 70, Project CST/10

Thanks fellas, I am definately leaning torward black but not decided yet. I got the cab 100% stripped clean so I can send it to media blasting and fix some cancer (about the size of a pencil) when time allows.

Re: My 70, Project CST/10

I got to see the cab while it was still in FL, and it was pretty impressive. Can't wait to see the rest of the build. OBTW, I would leave the cab lights......:D.

Looks pretty solid to start with..

Re: My 70, Project CST/10

Thanks guys! The cab lights are gone so I will need to put a flat roof skin on it for sure. I got the bed off and disassembled today. Going to keep the sides but am giving the floor and front panel to Gcurbic and Brn-Agn for their "combined effort" build. Then to touch up the chassis and move on to the cab.

STOCKISH 04-23-2011 10:33 AM

Re: My 70, Project CST/10

Well, I got the loose "new" steering all figured out. Turns out the guy who built the chassis used the wrong center link. Now that that is done, I need to rebuild the 12 bolt or find a good one. Then I will get the bottom of the cab finished up with undercoating or bed liner maybe and mount it for the last time.
