Ralley Wheels on My 72 Fleetside
 

My 72 short fleet currently has 6" van ralleys on stock ride height. It is currently coming apart for rust repairs ,rockers,cab corners and cab mounts. My question is which width ralley wheels (7" or 8" ) would look best when its finished ? I have a set of both ,also what size tire should I run on each ? It will stay stock height .Also can I use the narrow stainless bands from the van ralleys on the front ?:chevy:

7-8 in front and some 10's in the back !!

I really believe the 8" ralley wheels are a much better looking wheel. They fill out the wheel wells much better and they allow a bigger tire (even though it's only 1 additional inch of width). I've seen fairly decent sized tires run on an 8" wheel, but I would look through some of the threads/pictures to get some ideas what various size tires look like on the 8" wheel.

I ran a set of 8"ers with 275/60-15s (SS 454 tire), and it fit nice, filled out the wheel well, and you could almost line-up a straight edge vertically from the wheel well lip flare and touch the tire sidewalls on the way to the ground at 90 degrees. I'll be running the same look once the truck gets back together.

8 inchers look the best under a stock height truck.

Thanks for all the replys guys ,I was leaning toward the 8" wheels all along just wanted to get thoughts from the knowledgeable guys here .Now my next question is can I use 2 of the van rallies on the front 8" wheels as I only have 2 good 8" bands and my budget is being stretched to the limit building my truck ?

Flashed; I'm running 8-inch rallyes on all fours and I lowered it 2" using ECE Springs.

Thanks Flashed. Front: BFG; 235/70R15. Rear: BFG; 255/70R15.
I like a tall and wide tire so it'll fill up my wheel well.
I know that Coker makes a "285/70R15 BF GOODRICH SILVERTOWN BLACKWALL" if you want something tall and REALLY wide. If they'd make it in Raised White letters I'd have a pair.

Post some pics so we can get an idea of what you're thinking about doing. Also, take some shots from the side and go to the "photoshop" section and ask ZUMO or some of the other guys to "PS" it and see what it would look like with the 7's & 8's or wearing straight 8's.

7 inch rallys on front, 8 inch on rear on my 67. 275/60 - 15s. Also have 2 inch spacers on rear to line things up better with the 2 1/2 inch drop with disc brakes on the front.

96blazer ,my truck will be similar to yours minus the white top. Mine will eventually be medium red on stock springs.It is probably in even more pieces today than yesterday as the shop was planning on cutting out the rocker panels today and removing the front clip. The bed and doors are already off and the Buddybuckets came out yesterday .I dont have any current pics and cant load them due to a glitch in our internet service at home.You can see a pic of it in the Flashes Mancave pics in the our scale section.

A friend of mine has a 1967 Chevy C10 CST longbed. He has a 6-bolt wheel pattern. He likes the way the ralley wheels on my 1986 GMC SWB 1/2 ton (5-bolt) looks and sits.

Question: Will the 6-bolt Blazer/Suburban 4x4 ralley wheels (15"x8") fit on my friends 1967 C10 without any modifications or wheel adapters? If not, why not? He has disc fronts and drum rears.

Let me know your thoughts guys ....

I say run the 8's on all four corners with either 255/70/15 tires all around or stagger the tires with a 235/70/15 up front.

Also, yes you can run the trim rings from the 6.5" wheels on the 8" wheels.

Follow-up Questions: In addition to the above questions, here are a couple more related ones:

1. Are there any 6-bolt, 15"x8" ralley wheels that were made that were not from the '80s era that will fit the 1967 C10?

2. My biggest concern is the center hub section. Will the 6-bolt ralley wheel have enough mounting clearance over the front hubs (center wheel bearing area) and the rear axle centers?

3. Are there 6-bolt ralley wheel center caps made with originally with the Chevy Bowtie emblem or did they all come with open-style caps for the fronts & closed-style caps with the "4x4" circular emblems for the rears?

4. Alternatively, I guess the 1967 C10 could use wheel adapters to convert to a 5-bolt patter ralley wheel. Anyone have issues with the adapters or conversion? If you have any photos, please share them.

The 6 lug ralleys will fit fine but the 4x4 trucks had open front caps I think ,getting old and cant remember. Someone will correct me if Im wrong.

Only aftermarket "Vette" style rallies or OE steel wheels.

They will fit fine.

The caps were available with both the bowtie emblem or the 4x4 emblems. New bowtie stickers are available. All 4x4 trucks of the era had manual hubs, so the front caps were open. Any swap meet will have the closed center caps. Alot of guys run the later model 88-98 plastic caps.

Yes, you could use adapters, but I don't really care for them.

Thanks for your timely reply. Your insights are helpful.

1. We have 15x8 and 15x10 6-bolt Corvette-style wheels but everyone is using them and we wanted to try to be true to the truck side by using the 6-bolt truck rallies.

2. Great to hear. Perfect.

3. I like the bowtie emblems rather than the 4x4 emblems if I can find them. I also like the 1988-1998 style center caps but I've only seen them in the 5-bolt configuration. See below pics. If you have a pic of the 6-bolt, please post it for reference. Thanks.

4. I too don't care for adapters for a couple of reasons: cost and they take up additional space. We are also looking at salvage yards to see if it is cost effective to replace the front and rear with 5-bolt, 1/2 ton parts (rotors and axles). This way, we can run the 5-bolt truck rallies. This option may not be cost effective but trying to look at all of the options before we commit.

I like it alot. Thanks for the pic. Just got home from a parts run and picked up a mint 6-bolt pattern truck rally rim for $10. Mounted it on the 67 c10 and it looks great. Now need to find a set of four with your cool 1988-99 center caps.

Forgot to ask earlier. Do these caps secure with mounting screws or bolts from the inside/back space side of the rims similar to the 1988-98, 5-lug version caps?

If you have any pics of the reverse side of the rims showing this please post them for reference. Thanks.
