Suggestions on body mount/cab mount kit?
 

I'm almost at the point of mounting the body and getting this truck to paint before final assembly. Any and all suggestions welcome. Should I go rubber, should I go poly? Why, which manufacturer? My frame is a 68 GMC 4x4 1/2 ton SWB.

I'm in the same predicament. There's a lot of pros and cons on this subject. Some people like the new poly mounts because they're supposed to last longer. Others don't like them because they start to squeek sooner and are stiffer. Others say the old style rubber ones lasted for 20-30 years without problems so they're staying with OEM. I still undecided.

If this was moved to the paint/body section or 4x4 section that makes no sense. Nobody goes to that forum. I'd appreciate it returned to where it was please!

I would go with rubber for the cab mounts and poly for the suspension components for the reasons stated above by 68gmsee. Classicheartbeat is a board supporting vendor that carries the full kits.

i tried poly mounts once and changed back to rubber in a few months and was much happier with over the road long distance driving// i do agree on poly for suspension pieces

My feelings are no secret around here on this subject. Rubber mounts on body and urithane mounts for suspention. We have the complete 3/4 ton and 4x4 body mount kits in stock. (Including hardware) WES

Poly mounts for the cab are like riding on bricks. There is no movement in them at all. The whole idea of cab mount bushings is to absorb vibration and allow movement, to ease stress on welds, panel components, and glass. The rubber bushings allow the cab to move as a unit instead of twisting, like it would if it was bolted solid. When you use Poly cab mount bushings you are basically bolting it solid...

Because these trucks have "C" channel frames, not boxed or tube. These frames are very flexible and rubber allows for frame movement. Urithane does not. I have had customers come in here where the body mount hardware has pulled thru the floor with urithane mounts, because of the movement of the frame. The bodies of these trucks are spot welded together and are not meant to be flexed and pulled around, so dammage happens when they do. WES

might not b a big diff for trailer queen or mall crawler but try a 600mile nonstop ride and the diff is very readily apparent

never had any binding in my suspension but always lubricated on a regular basis as part of normal maintenance

I have poly under my longhorn, & will say its a stiffer ride, but they were much needed,as the truck has a tilt front clip. The poly mounts ensure that the clutch engages @ the same spot every time;) For any off road, or hauler truck that will get flexed, rubber is for sure the way to go. In my case, the old truck is a cruiser, that I want to go straight when I drop the hammer(poly mounts & a stiff steel bed floor help with that). The poly engine mounts are a tad harsh tho....a lot more vibration is noticed. crazyL

I swapped the OEM mounts in a 71 K5 Blazer for poly mounts and regretted it. The ride was too rough for me and the mounts translated a lot of vibration into the cab. I switched back to a rubber set weeks later but kept the poly suspension mounts. I plan to use rubber cab mounts on both my 72 K10 and K20.
