I am just wondering if any one has attempted to put in a 8.1 in their truck and if so was it a hugh pain or did go OK. I got a chance at a motor out of a late model avalanche:motor,tranny, harness, for a decent price. Just not sure I want to hassel with it since I already have a 383 T.P.I I can use

are you sure it is from an Avalanche? I thought those were just 1/2 ton subs under the skin.

If they are I think a 5.3 is more likely, MAYBE a 6.0.

Maybe someone can verify, I am no expert.

Nope, you could get a 2500 Avalanche, there are a couple here in town. Jay

it is for sure a 3/4 ton with the 8.1 they just dont make to many performance parts for it and chevy stopped making them, but i love the fact that they r torque monsters

IGOR checked out your blazer build very nice,My motor is coming out of a 05 avalanche getting motor trans and harness,if I can talk him into it I am trying for the fuel system and cooling system too

i was debating picking up an 8.1 but went with a 6.0 to keep the truck light. the 8.1 should workout nice with minor mods, big block mounts, headers and so on.

DirtyLarry hangs out in the 73-87 forum, he's got an 8.1L in his truck. I think there are quite a few more issues to deal with.

Thank you sir! I am working on my cross member right now - trying to modify a DIY4X setup to fit under this oil pan. I'm very close!

got everything picked up this weekend for my 8.1 swap, got the motor, tranny. harness, fuel system,cooling system, going to also use the brake system off the donor truck and I got the exhaust(can at least use the mounting flanges and the O2 sensors)now to find the time and money to get it in the truck

They do make up for the weight the power is awesome just the mileage isn't but when towing it never goes down if your gonna tow

The mileage can't be that bad the weight difference between the donor truck and my truck is roughly 2500 lbs, but I ain't building it for mileage,I plan on driving it like I stole it lol

my friends truck 8.1 gets 9mpgs avg when towing a suburban he got the same but he claims he gets 13 now but i think that's light footin lucky driving lol but your not going for mileage and your truck is lighter

I got my cross member all welded up today. Hopefully going to drop motor in the frame tomorrow - we'll see!
