Shipping a grille
 

I scored a nice 1973 grille today at the pull and save. I want to send it to a friend of mine. Of course that means I have to pack it up and ship it. For you guys who have shipped these before, where is a good place to find a box to ship this in. I don't want to try and "make do" with something and then have this damaged in transit. Thanks for your ideas.

Sorry, Can't help with the box but want to mention;

Even though it's used wrap/tape the front outer edges with tissue paper so it doesn't get scuffed by the cardboard box, I bought what looked like a nice used one off fleabay. By time it got to me it was scuffed all to he11....

you can try a box movers use to pack wall pictures in..

first id stick it in that styrofoam sheet stuff then wrap that in bublewrap and finally a cardboard box. Im sure you could find something in a u ship place or u haul that would work..

Thought I might take a ride back to the top by adding a picture. I know it is not going to be like one of the new reproductions. However, it is hard to beat $17 for the grille including the center and outside brackets.

Just shipped a grille to the east coast. In a box a little larger than the grille via UPS from kansas city for $18.00. The smaller and more form fitting the box, the better.

Just insure it for about 10x what it's worth.

x2 on the styrofoam and bubble wrap,and make sure it form fits snug in the box so it doesnt slide around and get banged all up

UPS should sell them, or like the other member said, U-Ship too.

I ship grilles and other fragile items between 2 pieces of 3/8 plywood spaced apart with 2x4 or equivalent...and bubble wrap the grille first.
Any cardboard box that is flat and long can be bent in the centre.

Even if you insure an item they will often claim it was not packaged correctly....and in some cases of nos items you may not even be able to replace it.

Excellent advice! I can tell you as a 24 year UPS employee that most damages are caused by substandard packaging.

Another tip....Before sealing your package/crate, make a copy of the shipping label and place it inside the package. Labels get torn off the packages and we're left waiting for a claim to match the contents.
