junkyard score
picked up a mint dash pad out of a 78 scottsdale today for $35! not a flaw on it. not sure if itll fit my 84 but it was too good of a deal to pass up. going back to get the seat it looks brand new too. woo hoo!

Re: junkyard score
The gauge bezel isn't going to fit, and the headlight switches may or may not line up.

Re: junkyard score
so i cant use my 84 bezel? should i get the bezel out of the 78? the pad will interfere with the switch? i know the pad is more rounded and notched around the bezel insted of straight but it looked like it would work. if not oh well maybe someone on here could use it

Re: junkyard score
My buddy and I swapped a 78 dash pad into his 86 Blazer.
The instrument clusters are different, so if the one attached to that awesome dash pad is still there, grab it. Don't forget the small piece that goes under the steering wheel, cuz that is different too. His Blazer had the windshield wiper switch on the column, not the dash. Therefore, the headlight switch is centered over there, not up above the wiper switch. If yours is the same way, you'll have to move the headlight switch up. The headlight switch sort of screws into the metal behind the bezel, and it should be pretty clear where it would be if a wiper switch were on the dash. Drill a hole in the metal on the dash, and move the switch up. If you can't figure out where it should go, take it off and install the dash and bezel normally. Then take a sharpie and mark where the headlight switch needs to go. Unassemble, and drill a hole where your mark is. Only bad part is now you will have an empty hole where the windshield wiper switch would have gone on the 78 bezel. Since my buddy had installed off-road lights on his bumper at the same time, it was the perfect spot to put a toggle switch for the off-road lights. If nothing else, you'll have to fab up something to cover the hole. Hope that clears it up! |
Re: junkyard score
When did GM move the VIN? Later dashes have the cutout at the front edge of the windshield, earlier were straight since the VIN is on the door post instead of the dash.

Re: junkyard score
So you'll have to make a cut-out for your VIN, the '78 is straight across the front.
