Making progress

First things first... I don't know if I have introduced myself yet. I have been lurking on this forum for a while now. I finally got some life events past me that will allow me to spend more time working on my truck. I will post some pics below. 1959 apache fleetside longbox... 327 with a 3speed column shift and 2 speed overdrive tailshaft.

Currently I am working on painting the rear half of the frame and underbed parts with POR15 redoing the wood and painting the inside of the bed with tintable bedliner. I am thinking about going with the original colors. That way when I am ready to paint the outside it will be all ready. In the mean time I can still enjoy the truck.

I am also taking off the overload springs and installing a front and rear sway bar. See the pics below.. Hopefully I will post more as I get more progress.

You will also notice the messy garage. I also made the mistake of tearing apart my truck before cleaning the garage. Luckily I have managed to get it 90 percent clean... and since I just passed the CPA exam my wife has allowed me to buy some rewards... 60 gal compressor, jack, jackstands, air tools and some parts for the truck. I used to be strictly a cabinet maker so my automotive tools have always been limited.

If all goes well I will also be relocating the tank to the rear and working on improving the interior of the cab.

Re: Making progress

I was going to post more pics but the site is giving me grief.. I will try again. I have some pics of the underside.

As far as what my plans are for the truck they are as follows:

Things That are done:
-327 has been redone
-overdrive unit is now working
-gas tank leak fixed
-rear axle completely rebuilt with 3:90 gears which work great with the overdrive.
-front and rear sway bars
-Por 15 on the back half of the frame.
-acquired deluxe stainless for bedsides

Things I would like to do soon:
-Move the gas tank to the back (baffled of some flavor) so I can insulate the cab and get more room for audio system.
-fix some imperfectins in the bedside... and redo the bodywork on the cab.
-eliminate the tailgate chains and do hidden latches.
-patch the paint with matching slightly worn paint
-underfloor power breaks
-toyota stearing box and powerstearing with stock stearing column...
-convert to a deluxe heater and add a/c
-add cab stainless
-do the woodbed with pine with a barnwood type finish so it looks original but weathered.
-use brown bedliner on the wheel wells as well as the metal insides of the bed
-clean up and repaint the motor with chevy orange
-repolish and install vintage corvette valve covers and maybe use a corvette aircleaner to match
-lean out the carb cuz it is jetted for california
....and way down the road
-upgrade the front suspension to IFS of some flavor

As you can see the list is pretty long and with a young family of 3 princesses it isn't going to happen fast. They did have fun with me at the drive in though. As the previously posted pics show.

Hey man you guys still have drive-ins? That is so cool.

Yeah I have two girls ages 14 and 7 so I know all about the expense believe me. You will get her done and she looks good now, plus you can enjoy driving her.

That truck is in good shape. Don't drive around with your girls in that bed because there is not wood on the side to stop them for falling through.lol JOKE

Re: Making progress

Thanks... It was originally from Cali and I bought it from a guy who had it for over 20 years. I saw the truck when I was about 9 and ended up buying it almost 20 years later.
