1955 frame swap ?

Hi All-

wanting to turn my 55 into a 4wheel drive truck. Can you tell me what frames I could use with this? I heard 74-77 frames will work. Is this true? what frame would be best to use? short box or long box? Also heard blazer frames work as well. Do any of the frame to body holes line up? Also, what about updating the steering column, is that a tough job? I've been looking for answers, but have not found a lot of info on this build. thanks for any and all advice. the 55 was a project of my dads. For some reason, he put a 426 street wedge in this truck. He passed away when I was 7 years old, so I have no clue why he put this in here.

Re: 1955 frame swap ?

Hang on to the wedge motor, thats worth a few dollars. Most of the frame swaps done when mounting a completely differant style and shape cab onto a frame from a newer year will require some fab work for supports and brackets. I have a '71 SWB 4X4 that would work for a switch like that, it would just take some thinking, fabbing and welding to make it work. I'm sure more people will add to this, your project is very do-able so don't give up on your vision.

Re: 1955 frame swap ?

the most ones I have seen is the 73-87 blazer frame swaps,, the front track width is wide for my taste but it seems to be the easiest? I'm collecting s10 4x4 stuff for a front frame graft to my truck,, that way I will have the IFS of the newer style 4x4's for a better ride!
