aluminum grille needing repair

I have a 70 grille with some small dents here and there and has some scratches on it.
I was wondering if you can use body filler or somthing along those lines to clean it up so it can be painted. It's an extra grille so if I screw it up it won't matter that much, I just don't want to spend a bunch of time on somthing that won't work.
Thanks for the help.

If you plan on painting it, you could use filler, but not if you want it to look original.
There are companies that will straighten out your kerfageld grill, be it alluminum, or stainless. It would probably be cheaper to get a new one though.

alluminum is pretty easy to work with, you can use a hammer and dolly to get the dents out, sand out the scratches and unevenness from the dents with 180 grit to start with, and work down to 500. I recommend a D/A sander, and then polish with rubbing compound and a buffing wheel. I cleaned up a set of Peterbilt tanks like this once, they were dinged and scratched deep, when I was done, something like 18 hours later, I could use them to shave in.
