Location of 7-72 mirrors???

Ok I got a set of 70-72 outside mirrors for the burb yesturday at the show. I was wondering how to correctly locate and drill the holes from them? Does anyone have a measurement from somewhere on the door? Or do I just guess?

I would think the ideal place to put them is where you can see the best behind you and leave room for the vent windows to operate

Not positive, but if you check inside the door some had the correct spots..............

My 71 had a small knockout like piece that you could feel up under the inner panel. I mounted mine based on line of sight and being able to open side vent. Kinda wondered which way to rotate the mirror though. The mirror is off center on the post.

Use the gasket (left for left side, right for right side) as a template, center on flat area and measure 6 1/8" from door edge to gasket for left side. On right side, the measurement is 8" from the door edge to the gasket. Mark you holes and drill 11/32 diameter holes, in the three hole locations. I use stainless steel screws for installation.

If you measure a truck that had factory mirrors, you can confirm my dimensions. The assembly manual references some datum points that are used for their dimensions and I haven't been able to determine where they are located from. I suspect they are referenced to a common location, but they are not evident.
