What did you get done 4/4 edition - no foolin'!

What, no what did you get done thread already? My turn to start!
Tightened the battery cables on the 87 diesel, took it for its first spring drive. All seems OK, wil be swapping out a battery soon and then driving it for the summer.
Changed the oil in the 99, 175,000 miles. Time o decide if I should fix the rocker (OK replace the missing rocker) and windhsield or just drive it.
Pulled the leaking valve cover on the 79, PO used RTV, and ran the bolts ll the way down wet, had a bent flange in the front too. Found the motor is full of sand (why can't people keep a PCV system witn proper sealing?). Not suprising as this is an ex-county truck, then a gravel pit run around truck. Took about a cup out of the velve cover, took some of the loose stuff off the motor. Painted the valve cover red metallic. Lesson learned - brake cleaner will quickly dissolve base coat paint. Straightened and reinstalled the valve cover with a proper gasket. Installed my rebuilt carb (been off since November). Replaced the fuel pump (draining back and leaking oil), found no gasket and Teflon tape on the pipe nut? Rerouted and recovered the melted wire harness at the alternator.
Ran 2 gallons of waste oil thru the second stage of my processer to feed to the diesel. Jut gotta put longer wires on the final stage pump so I can power it from the truck. Since gas is now pushing $4 here this is looking like a worthy project.
Built a base for motor storace, just need the base to engine mounts. Then I can get the 5.3 out of the garage.
Then it started snowing so I quit.
Whew!

I worked on other stuff but did get a couple of hours in on my project.

I'm started working on cleaning up the fuel injection donor truck parts. I powdercoated the intake manifold and sensor brackets, distributor holdown, water neck, and coil brackets.

Looks GREAT Kevin, your projects always seem to amaze me. :)

I didn't get a whole lot done, but I did meet up with board member brossow (Brent), he came and picked up a cab he purchased from me, he is a real nice guy. Now that the cab is gone, I had a chance to clean and organize my garage...feels good having room once again. I got the remote access system figured out on Yeller, so now I can button up the interior once and for all.

I also, unfortunately, spent the very last weekend ever at Porky's in St Paul. They closed their doors for good Sunday evening. Very sad in my opinion, such a cool place and fun establishment to hang out at. Spent MANY weekend there with friend and our old cars. (pictures pulled from the 'net for reference purposes). There was a INCREDIBLE turnout ALL weekend long to say farewell to a historic drive in.

I did a compression check on the engine now that it is back together, figured out I have the rockers run down to far on the drivers side. I will back them off tonight and try again, then I will post numbers. I also helped a neighbor install a range hood in his house. Never did get to take the kids fishing so that will be done one evening this week, that one I am looking forward to!

I had a bid out on an EZ-Wiring mini fuse kit on eBay just to see if I would win it. My bid won early last week and I received my kit on Friday. The winning bid was $135! Hopefully I'll get the cojones to start on that project in the coming week or so, between baseball practices, games and tournaments.

Also, non-truck related, trying to figure a dang sprinkler system leak in my yard. Checked all the heads, above ground check only, and they're fine. I hate to say it, but it may be an underground leak. I shut off the main valve, purged the system, and now just turning on one zone at a time until I figure which where the dang leak is. Oh well, I'll get it figured out.

Nothing on my truck other than gaze at it a bit. Gotta button up all the household projects before I can responsibly work on the truck again.

With that, I reset some crown in the master bedroom. Later demo'ed the bookshelf built in under the stairs to build that area out as a closet/shelter.

Made a run to Home Depot. On the way back found out carrying drywall in an open bed with 50 mph winds isn't a good idea. Gotta go back tomorrow to buy more drywall.

I drove 435 mile to Northern Cali to do a BBQ,Tri-Tip,pulled pork,cole slaw,BBQ beans,parmesean toast,corn on the cob,and apple cake-for 300 guys. It was a Saftey lunch,then drove 435 miles home. I do this once a month.
The on Sunday I went to pick-a-part and got a rear sport bumper, solid rear window, radiator, fan shroud, and some bracket for the '77...it was half off day.

Cleaned the truck and installed some new valve covers and a aircleaner. The old ones were starting to rust. So I bought some new Edelbrock ones. These are powdercoated and won't rust.

Well I bought a new black dropped base air filter housing... allegedly dropped bases show dyno gains due to the air-flow being smoother into the throat of the carb, and it is black cuz i am going all black in the engine compartment...

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48...i/SSPX0027.jpg

I also bought some Aluminum Valve Covers (Black theme) which should solve the leak problem caused by the flexy steel valve covers I currently have. Not installed yet.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48...i/SSPX0028.jpg

I also put in new fuel line from the Fuel regulator to the Carb line...
Summit has this new Fuel filter that doubles as a 90° Hose end (very Cool)
My old line was stainless -6 AN. The new line is all -8 from the Fuel Cell to the Carb, to keep up with 550 HP... It is also black, in keeping with the new theme

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48...i/SSPX0034.jpg

The last thing I did was put the Berlin Tonneau cover on, although it is not mounted... I decided to do this for now until I get enough $$$ to do the Bed. it also covers the nasty wood, and fuel cell from onlookers...

Stuck a new 2" cowl hood from Classic Industries on the dually. Surprisingly good fit.
Also borrowed my buddy's old GM diagnostic reader and messed around a bit to see what the OBD had to say for itself.

Also a ton of random stuff. Great to see guys make headway on big projects though. Keep up the good work guys!

WHAT!!!?!?!? I can't beleive that. Porkys was an awesome place! I have spent at least four nights a year there for the last 3 years (BTT50's and CarCraft) I had no idea that they were done. Is there a new drive in style place going in there? I sure hope so because that was a real cool hangout. Sad day :waah:

I installed a new 7qt oil pan and 1 piece gasket also new oil pump & pickup to match the pan. Swapped to a 2 piece timing cover and added a new high torque starter that doesnt sound upset cranking over the 10-1 small block.

Replaced the broken spring thing on the drivers door hinge.

Feeling super ambitious I removed the heater box to replace the busted heater core. It was nasty. There were stink bugs living in there too. Blah. The new core is in the box but the box isnt back under the dash yet.

Is it imperative that the insulation go back between the fire wall and heater box??? My insulation is wasted and I just tore it the rest of the way out.

Re: What did you get done 4/4 edition - no foolin'!

Spent more time on the house than the truck but did R&R the cluster and cleaned inside the dash some more. I knew there was a loose light in it around the oil gauge. Was a simple fix but the cluster had to come out. (I hate pulling that main plug to get it out):uhmk:

But now, as can be viewed in what I saw was an interesting "picture of perspective" at the time, the lights all work. Granted I wouldn't attempt to drive it at night like this!
http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...a/light1-2.jpg

Even found the one extra bulb I had left over from last year when I did this led conversion and forgot to install for the heater control. Now it's lit with an led. Noticed it is more of an easier on the eyes blue tint than the dim white it once was.
http://i957.photobucket.com/albums/a...a/light2-1.jpg

Other than that; waiting on a "part" to get this all back together. Just a work in progress. ;)

Spent my wrenching time getting a Lincoln Town Car ready for sale. The dollars will go into the truck project.

I moved all my truck parts from the garage to an enclosed patio. I couldn't get anything done in the garage with the boxes clogging up the works. Wish I could bolt them in place on the truck instead.

Installed a great garage stereo system. Now I am ready for the build!

Went and washed my truck, used the California Clay Bar to get rid of the oxidization and whatnot, waxed her up all perty (bout as perty as 32 year old ugly yellow paint can get =P)
Also finally ripped the twisted, rusting, nasty back bumper off and tried to clean up some of the body damage (got rear-ended a few months back, shoved my bumper clean through my driver's side rear quarter panel, twisted the end of the frame rail, creased the tailgate, smashed the taillight, and just basically ruined my night :waah:)
And last but not least, put on the new redneck "license plate" my little sister brought back from NY as a souvenir :two:
Only problem is, now without a rear bumper, my baby's just begging me to get her some big fat dual straight pipes right out the back...sucks bein broke!!
