heavy duty dust cover
Does anyone know where I can get one of the HD 4x4 dust covers for a th400? Looks like it should have at least 6 3/8" bolts holding it on. Have one of the cheapo plastic jobs that normally would go on a 400 but the holes are in the wrong place and way too small. The old case I had fit it but the new one is thicker and a bit differently configured. Hope it all fits right. Anyway, couldn't find a dust cover so i thought I'd ask if anyone knows.

Re: heavy duty dust cover
NO luck so far. What I'm looking for would be much thicker than a normal cover. Made of cast aluminum with ribs. Actually adds structural integrity. There are also two "arms" from what I hear that would run from a pair of "ears" on the cover to the front crossmember. The cover would have 6 3/8" bolts to secure it. This is a TH400K stamped HD on the case with a thicker bell housing than the regular ones.

Re: heavy duty dust cover
Hey, thanks!
Looks like $91.00 plus shipping, which is kinda steep, but I'm going to get one asap. Probably try and drill a plastic one to fit for now until I can afford it. Kinda seems silly to worry about a $100 bill when I've spent upwards of $3000 already on the engine and trans, but I'm flat tapped out. Had to put the last batch of parts on credit and I hate that, but I think I've got everything I need to get it running at least. Thanks again for the link. I'll bookmark it for next month. |

Re: heavy duty dust cover
Even better. Thanks!
Just got the transmission in. I'm pretty excited. Didn't have a trans jack so I had to make do with an engine hoist, a ratcheting tie down strap, and the bottle jack that sits on the fender. Got kinda tricky there for a second but it's in there now. Have to put the fill tube in and connect the lines. Going to pick up the engine in about 10min and see if I can't get that dropped in and the hood on before it starts raining. I might actually get this thing running today if all goes well!!! I'm freaking excited! Haven't driven the truck in almost 2 months. |
Re: heavy duty dust cover
Well, i failed to finish it but the engine is in and bolted up to the transmission at least. I severely underestimated how long it would take to do by myself. Usually have help with this sort of thing but no one was available today.

Re: heavy duty dust cover
Do you have the support pieces that goes from the engine side if the motor mounts to that style dust cover?

Re: heavy duty dust cover
Of course not! :) That would mean I'd save some money. :)
