Towing with the suburban

Ok so ive been tying to find out how much my new 1986 1/2 2wd burb will tow.
And how to make it tow more safely.
I was think of changing the rear end to a 14 bolt FF, big leaf springs, maybe helper bags, and good brake controller.

Im wanting to tow my 4x4 3/4 ton Burb on a 20 foot flatbed trailer.
Selling the diesel no space for the kids.

Thanks.

You should be fine as long as your braking system is checked out by a pro and get a brake controller installed and properly adjusted. Those have to be wired in correctly. Have the lines and pads both checked. Now in 86, If I remember the 1/2 ton came with 305 and 350's as the options for the engines. I could be wrong but I think the 350 model had a tongue weight of around 6 thousand pounds.

Ok cool ive been trying to find towing specs but no luck.
I didnt know if the over drive trans would be find just driving in 3rd.
I dont know how much my mud toy wieghts 3/4 4x4 Burb + a 20 foot two axle flatbed trailer.
I just dont want to break stuff away from home with trailer and toy.
Huge tow bill LOL
The tow burb is a 350/700R4 10 bolt 3.73, it has the Z82 H.D. Trailering spec option

I would also consider a transmission cooler if I were you....and I would also increase the pan size for your tranny. Yes....use the 3rd gear....never tow in overdrive. Some people do it and claim there is nothing wrong with that. Guys at AAMCO would tell you otherwise.

Just tow the 1/2 ton on the trailer, with the 3/4ton. Just kidding. Good advice above. Towed some stout loads with my old 86' 1/2 ton burb when I had it. Bought a 3/4 ton this time around though.
