can I switch out a cluster with idiot lights to one with gauges? anything I need to do?

What year and what do you want in your new cluster, ie electric oil,amp vs voltmeter, etc

Im working on a friends 77 and all it has is lights and he wanted gauges! I got the switch done and they work good!
