You have a zebra and you have a horse. They look similar but are not alike. They may sound the same coming down the road.

The front suspensions are nothing alike. The 4WD uses torsion bars. The 2WD doesn't. So, the chassis' are different.

If you could pick up a 2WD Blazer/Tahoe/Yukon chassis, you'd be swapping bodies, but I'm thinking you should look for a 2WD version and go from there.

Well i have an 89 Chevy 1500 2wd i think i am just gonna swap front stubs. It would be alot easier...

there is NO front subs, it's a one piuece frame front to back. If you cut it and weld it back together then yes you can do it. I wouldn't want to though.

Re: Convert 95 yukon 4wd to a 2wd

There is a section of the frame apricot under the firewall were the frame goes from boxed to c channel. This is were the stub is. I have done many 1500 truck. Just figured I would do the same.on this. What reason would you not want to? Other than it being time consuming and you would need to rebrace the frame.

i remember reading a thread about this somewhere before.... about sectioning in the front of a 2wd frame onto the blazer/tahoe 4wd frame... i searched, but could not find it. :(

it can be done, its a lot of work, but people have done it....

Re: Convert 95 yukon 4wd to a 2wd

I haven't looked at the lighter stuff, but 1-tons definitely have front stubs, weld is right under your feet. I think I'm going to do the same thing with my 1-ton shorty with a 1-ton 4X4 stub.
altereddezignz, do you just grind the factory welds down, pull 'em apart and then join the new one right back on and reweld? That's my plan with mine, plus drilling holes for the torsion bar crossmember. I'd appreciate any tips you care to pass along my way...

Re: Convert 95 yukon 4wd to a 2wd

normally when doing a z on an older truck it is teh same as stubbing one. so i ahve always just cut and used new gussets inside top and bottom of cuts after it is rewelded. I have always boxed the frame atleast a foot erither way just to make sure. Probable a little voerkill but oh well. If you could grind all the weld all of then that would be perfect but i do know that the frames are 1 inch difference in like a 2wd truck frame and a 4x4 tahoe or yukon frame. I hope to ahve alot of pics up when i get to that point with mine.

I measured both frames, looks like they're the same - both are 1-ton. I have one to practice on, hope I'm not wasting my time.

Well ll in all i would rather have a 2wd frame for mine but finding a 2wd 2door 95 up frame had become impossible for me lol. so ill be tubbing this one to.

Re: Convert 95 yukon 4wd to a 2wd

Think i may take a 4 door 2wd frame and take the lengh out of the center . should be the same frame i think.

If your cutting, why not just cut the front out? Opens up more options on frames that will work. It isn't all that hard to swap from ends and keep it strong.

Re: Convert 95 yukon 4wd to a 2wd

Sounds better. The rear axle setup is different for pickups compared to Yukon/Tahoes. Should be easier to find a 4-dr than the 2-dr.

But, if you have the skillset, what difference does it make?

It really doesn't. But y make it harder than it needs to be. Suburbans and 4 doors r a dime a dozen.lik like I said this whole build is about b n simple and clean.

could he possible just use some front end components off of a 2000+ suburban or tahoe. they also used a torsion bar front end. then just get the shockwaves. probably wouldnt get the frame on the ground but it would get down there alright.

Re: Convert 95 yukon 4wd to a 2wd

Ok. Here is what will happen. Using an 89 c1500 front stub. ( I already own this ) Then use 96 c2500 light duty 6 lug rotors with new new bearings so i can keep the 6 lug rear end and use the 96 drop spindles i already have. Then i have to get a set of calipers from a 93 up Tahoe Yukon so i can run brakes on the front lol...

Re: Convert 95 yukon 4wd to a 2wd

Started on the front stub swap for my 1-ton today.
Grinding the welds down to separate the stub from the rest of the frame ain't happening, at least on this one. There's enough weld penetration to make it impossible to grind it out without destroying one or the other.
So I destroyed the short sections of frame that I'd left on the 4WD front end after I parted out the truck. I cut right along the seams, then cut the remaining short pieces off (about 1/2" of overlap), then just ground the welds down. So far, so good. I hope to cut the front off of the 2WD truck next weekend in the opposite manner, cutting the thin front stub and then grinding the welds off of the remaining frame.
The factory only welded these together on the outside, I'm going to clean mine up so they can be inside welded as well, should make it a bit stronger.
