Rear end for 54' to match IFS??
4 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
Need some help here..... I have a 54 chevy truck and need to know what rear end I can put in it. First, I have a IFS with rotors that have 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern. What rear end can I put in it to match the front suspension? I know that an S10 rear end with match it. However, will it withhold the power of a V8 350? Any other vehicles with 5 on 4.75 rear end bolt pattern? |
Re: Rear end for 54' to match IFS??
S10 4x4 is still narrow. We have that in our '54 but ended up with spacers which I don't like. I'd go with a Camaro or a ZR2 S10. Yes, they are 10 bolts and will handle the 350. Our 3.42 S10 4x4 rear end handles the moderately tuned 327 (.060) and will burn a nice little patch in the first 3 gears.

Re: Rear end for 54' to match IFS??
I haven't measured mine but I have a late 70's Disk brake Camaro/Firebird rear end going under the 48.
It has a mid 70's Nova rearend under it now and with the 255-60-15 tires on 8.5 rims I barely have any clearance on the inside of the tires to the sides of the bed. This time around I am going with a narrower tire and wheel combination but will still need the offset to clear the bed sides. A ten or 12 bolt out of a late 60's Impala fits real well but you have to clean a lot of scabs off it when you change it over for different suspension. Most guys wouldn't want to run one because they have a ton of brackets welded on them that have to be cleaned off. The 48 had a 66 Impala 12 bolt under it with 14 x 8.5 Crager Mach 8 rims and N-50 tires when this photos was taken and the N-50's fit the wheel wells pretty nicely. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w...-29_edited.jpg |

Thanks for the response. Does a Camaro rear end have a 5 on 4.75 bolt pattern? I need it to match the front.
