454 TBI question

Does anyone know if the coolant lines flowing through the bottom of the TBI unit are necessary for the TBI to run correctly? The only thing I can figure that it does is to preheat the gas closer to engine temp. Any input on this is appreciated.

Re: 454 TBI question

On the TPI cars, the coolant is used to prevent throttle blade icing in cold weather. I would imagine it is similar on yours. The odd thing is that the small block TBI's don't have coolant under them.

Re: 454 TBI question

I will have to check that out when I get home tonight. I will take a look and some pics. Never thought of it being similar to the TPI stuff, but it could be. Thanks

Re: 454 TBI question

it does in a sence from my under standing it keeps the fuel from freezing and building up and then breaking away and creating a rich enviroment in the cylinder

so my thinking is your ECM will read rich then lean from the sensors and then try and correct it. but its already corrected its self so the ECM is trying to correct its self and just getting confuzed and then throws false codes
