master cylinder replacement
 

im looking to replace my master cylinder. so today i was looking on summit for a replacement. found a few nice ones. any way im wondering if any of you guys have replaced yours? do they come with everything you need to replace it.

i am looking to replace because mine is leaking between the booster and the cylinder, have any of you guys ever had this problem and fixed it on a budget?

last time i had that problem i went to advanced and got their $30 special... its pretty straightforward... you just need the bench bleeder kit for like $6 and a large can of brake fluid

What Bob said. I put an Auto store master cylinder in a couple of years ago and haven't had an issue since.

I've changed many master cylinders over the years and as a matter of fact I actually changed one today on my 78. Got a rebuilt one from the parts house and as I was picking it up to walk out the door (in my bare hand, not in a box) the wire clips that keep the cap on were just flopping around all over the area that is supposed to keep them in place. I stopped, looked at it, and realized the cap had been compressed so that it wasn't thick enough for the wire spring clips to hold it in place. I grabbed my old one off the counter to verify and sure enough, the rebuilt one looked like someone had laid it down flat on concrete, put a 2x4 on top of it, and hammered it down about 1/4 inch "flatter" than it should be. I swapped the new rubber gasket from this rebuilt cap onto my old cap, made sure everything was snug like it should be, told the counterman thank you and left. It wasn't a big deal but I'm glad I checked it before I left. Just a little word of advice on rebuilt parts, always look them over real good before you leave.

Lots of the parts for our trucks can be purchased at the parts store come with lifetime warranty. The store may go out of business, but if they don't that can save you some dollars a few years (or months) down the road. Especially nice on parts that have higher failure rate like alternators, water pumps, etc.
