humming noise, sounds like road noise

ok so i was running around with 20" rims that were meant for a toyota, one of which had a slight inner lip bend and i could never get them to get a good ballance to where i wouldn't have the quakes and shakes going down the road. well now i have had them replaced with ones that are meant for a chevy hub but now i am hearing a noise like what you would hear with offroading tires, you know that humming because of the knoby tread and i'm running what looks like an all terrain. my question is, since running with the out of balance rims and tires for so long have i beat the hubs on my 01 4x4 tahoe ls to death or could the noise be coming from the tires them self? the noise starts at roughly 15mph and continues on from there. i don't wanna be stuck on the side of the road cause i beat my front hubs to death(i have a 45 minute commute each way with no parts houses on the way)

Jack it up & check for play in the bearings...There shouldnt be any.

well i pulled the trigger on a pair of hubs off ebay just after i posted this. i replaced the driver's side today since that seemed to be the noisy/noisier part and the noise is gone! and it seems to go down the road alot better. but man that was a PITA. i'm gonna replace the passenger side in the afternoon after i wake up since i have the other and may as well so i have that peace of mind.

I had the same thing happen on my 03 Z71 Tahoe after I bought some new Michelin all seasons. I first thought it was the tires because there is absolutely no play in the front hubs but then I notice it was intermittent, some days it would make the noise others it wouldn't, so it couldn't be the tires. I was finally able to determine it was the front left wheel hub, there is still absolutely no play but i can get it to make the noise now just spinning the tire with it off the ground. The 99-06 gm full size trucks and suv's are notorious for bad front wheel bearings especially if youre an aggressive driver or have wider than stock tires or larger than stock wheels. Gm really needs to rethink their front bearings.

Only way I could tell the hubs on my 00 were going was slowly going around curves you could hear a slight grinding sound. No play in them. I've replaced them on trucks with 50K and know trucks with 225K+ with the originals

Well now the bad part is my abs is all fubar'd. It started when i replaced the driver side hub. I'm gonna have to dig into it next weekend. Now my abs kicks in when slowing diwn at 20 mph all the way to 0. I tried swapping the old driver side sensor in and now no change. The only time the abs isn't active now is when the abs light is on. I did notice that there wasn't as much grease in the new drivers hub as there was in the old one, and there was what looked to be shims under the sensor. Could either of these be the issue? And the teeth on the reluctor wheel looked fine. No chips, cracks, or missing teeth
