Steering column
I have a 1966 c10. My bearings are shot(gone) in my steering column. Should I try to change the bearings in the column or get a newer one(70's) from the junk yard. I am upgrading to power steering also. What should I do.

Re: Steering column
I don't know about the bottom bearing but the top one is not that hard to replace.I did it on mine, no problem. As far as what to do that is up to you but maybe you should look into getting a tilt from a local recking yard, then you would have tilt . Everyone on here say that it's not that expensive or hard to do.

Re: Steering column
Thanks, does anyone know how to change the lower steering column bearing

Re: Steering column
I am curious what tilt column from salvage would fit a 1965 chevy C-10.

Do you have side trim on a step side? Do you have any pics from the side? |
Re: Steering column
:uhmk:If you replace it with a junkyard column it too will likely need the bearings replaced. :uhmk:
I replaced the upper and lower bearings in my '65. Takes a couple hours at the most assuming it doesn't have steering shaft wear. Look at posts #25 & #26 in my build thread: Lakeroadster's Build Thread |

Re: Steering column
I changed the column. I used a tilt column, gear box and shaft from a 84 c10. I had to do some modification to the column to get it to fit. The shaft had to be drilled and collapsed. It looks good and fits great. I just have to get my old steering wheel put on the new column when i get some time.
