Dash "cage"
I am currently in the process of taking my dash apart to clean behind it. I have the pad off and it is the metal "dash cage" underneath it that I am wondering how I get off. There are two bolts on either side of it that bolt into the body of the vehicle. It is loose now but the top of it is underneath the window gasket. Can I just rip this gasket out and then I will be able to take the "dash cage" out? Or am I SOL?

Re: Dash "cage"
Underneath the window seal there is some spot welds that you would need to chisel off.

Re: Dash "cage"
Not worth it just to clean, it's a fairly difficult ordeal just to get a few dust bunnies.

Re: Dash "cage"
If you had mice in it yanking the heater box is pretty much mandatory. I will bet they nested inside and its packed full of all sorts of stuff. the truck will never have decent working heat.

Re: Dash "cage"
Yeah I agree pulling the heater box will be much easier than taking that metal dash off. And also leaving nesting in there could be a nice little fire hazard underneath your dash. I'm actually redoing the interior in mine right now for that very reason. haha

Re: Dash "cage"
Yea that is what I want to do, I have all the vents except the main one that looks like it is riveted in the firewall out. Getting that cage out would allow me to vaccum out the main box and then disinfect it. I also bought this odour stop bomb that you put in the vehicle while it is running with the a/c and fans on high, supposed to circualte through the vehicles and elminate odours.

Re: Dash "cage"
It will be less PITA to just pull tha box out & cleal it outside tha truck..

Re: Dash "cage"
How exactly do I pull the box? It looks like it just has large rivets on it, there are no bolt heads inside the vehicle. Is there nuts on the firewall or a/c and heater motor area?

Re: Dash "cage"
To take out the box on the inside there is nuts on the firewall side that hold it on. to get to one of them you have to drop your passenger side inner fender. I believe there are only three nuts.

The drillbit will only take out the metal from the original weld leaving old metal underneath to reweld to. |
Re: Dash "cage"
I just took all my heater ducts out. Not that hard. See

Re: Dash "cage"
Do you have factory air? One hood hinge has to be removed IIRC.

Re: Dash "cage"
It does have factory air. I will have to take another crack at it sometime this week after work. The less I have to take off/apart, the better.
