Later model rear AC
4 Attachment(s)
I recently acquired a rear AC out of an 87 burb......It's not a direct bolt-in, but with careful placement, it looks like it was made for a three door and doesn't obstruct the back window.
Here's pics: |

Re: Later model rear AC
That looks great. I was just eyeballing a rear unit from a mid seventies burb myself about a week ago. Nice to know that it looks to fit so well.

Looks like a good fit. Nice work!

Re: Later model rear AC
The 73-87 burbs must be slightly more bulbous in the roof down to the back window, because there is a .75" gap across the back for which some kind of filler piece could be made (if it matters)
When scavenging one of these units, be careful because the evaporator (black) housing is fragile and can require extensive repair (mine did). The evaporator housing was obviously designed originally as an under-dash unit! I had a 74 burb with this setup, and you could feel the cold air on the back of your neck while driving! |

Re: Later model rear AC
nice, it hangs down less than a 72 rear A/C unit does. Doesn't the 73 - 87 unit have heat too?

I think I remember reading that they had a heating element in there, like in a toaster. It could have been later models or I could be remembering something wrong.
