Air bag relay?
Whats the purpose of a relay between my compressor and power? Do I need it? Heath

Re: Air bag relay?
You might want to ask in the suspension forum, but it's best practice to use a relay to protect your circuit. The relay goes between the pressure switch and the compressor. The pressure switch sends the signal to the relay and the relay switches power to the compressor on.

Re: Air bag relay?
The purpose is to reduce the control amps needed. The compressor needs a lot of amps to run and you don't want to run those wires into the cab. It the same reason that the headlights and winches use relays.

Re: Air bag relay?
what about just using large fuses

Why spend money on a fuse and holder, just wire it direct? Promise to send pics of the cool pyrotechnics show if it fails please.
Seriously, there is a proper way to wire a component with a large amp draw. It includes a turn on relay fed by a fused power source. This protects the component and the source from damage in the event of malfunction or failure. |
Re: Air bag relay?
Use the relay!!!

This might give you a better understanding of how it works.
