Vortec or Wait for LS

I have the option of a late 90s 5.7 vortec with about 20k miles wrapped up in a box that is free now because it was never picked back up so my dad said he would give it to me as long as he gets my stock tbi 350 or should wait for an LS 6.0 which i would plan on doing eventually anyways and i can get a deal on an LS as well im kind of stuck i don't wanna pull out a motor twice and mess with wiring crap more than i have to - this is also going in my 91 suburban mud truck/daily cruise mobile

I would wait and do the 6.0L hands down but I'm kind of biased!

You will be very glad you waited. start getting your parts together now, and keep an eye out for a 6.0 deal on CL or check with your local reputable yard every week. usually if you ask them to let you know when they get one, they will and you can get everything you need in one swoop.

Re: Vortec or Wait for LS

can you use a stock manifold, like the TBSS or maybe flipped truck manifolds.

Re: Vortec or Wait for LS

I would bet you could use the TBSS manifolds, at least until you can find a long tube header you like/can afford/ fit.

Sell vortec and buy used lq4. You will love the power. I have one in my 85 burb daily driver. The low end is amazing. I can drive around town at 1200 rpm in 4th with converter locked with out any problems. I even have small cam in it. But mine has a crab for now. I have FAST EZ EFI sitting in my room to install to help with milage a tad bit. Go ls you will never go back. I used truck manifolds. Driver side fits perfict and pass side needs 1/4 inch notched out of frame. Not a big deal. BRP hot rods has mid length headers that fit a 2wd. Cant see any reason why they would not fit a 4x4 cause they dont go to all the way down to the shackel. I have tried F body long tubes....They DO NOT WORK with 4x4. Got my LQ4 with 88,xxx for 800 bucks with out harness or throttle body.

i had the chance to get an lq9 95k miles with all accessories and wiring harness minus tranny for 2k but not sure what the prices are average because i haven't looked at ls stuff in awhile been finishing d60 swap and i don't want shorty headers and i cant bring myself to notch the frame at all or keep manifolds i might try making my own going to school for welding might as well put it to use

Re: Vortec or Wait for LS

if you want to make them, either buy a weld up kit OR you could just by the flanges and do the Fox body headers.

Those mid-length headers put 37 more hp to the ground. They are not short. They have 28 inch tubes. I did not want to but i saw a place on the fram that was just as skinny as the nothced area so i figured it would not make a differance.
