Carburetor Choices

I have a couple of options on the carburetor for my current project. The engine is a 305 which will have headers, a Edelbrock performer manifold and stock or mild cam. I'm not trying to race it, just a nice street cruiser.

The engine that is going into the truck had a Carter 9605S on it. I also have an opportunity to buy an Edelbrock 1405 carb for a reasonable price. I would expect rebuild and rejet either one of them.

Just wanted to get impressions and experiences with these carbs. I have always used Quadrajets or Holley. I was planning on a Quadrajet for this project, but both of these are 600 cfm and have small primaries. I hopeful one of them will work for me.

Use the Eldelbrock easy to tune and also a gas saver .

Hi Randy,

I believe the Edelbrock 1405 is basically the same carburetor as the Carter 9605S you already have. You should be able to rebuild & tune it using the same parts as you'd use for the Edelbrock.

They look very similar. I haven't had them next to each other, but venturi and the baseplate seemed to have minor differences. might have been my imagination.

Information on a different forum that supports the idea that they are the same.
