Trailer hitch on CST

So, it's been annoying me that I have this huge rusted trailer hitch that you have to cut the license plate to fit it around. I got under there today thinking I only had to remove one big bolt and it would just slide out..but the more I got to looking it seems like it may be apart of the frame? Is this so? Or am I missing the grooves and the lines under all that rust to see where the hitch begins and the truck ends?

Good call. I thought maybe this was a factory installed piece that came welded to the frame from GMC and that all campers were set up this way. Ill get on it tomorrow with the pics. Thanks

Dealer maybe but I don't think it was a factory option. I could be wrong.

lots of trailer hitches were welded on back then// mostly by trailer supply places local garages etc not from the factory at GM tho

best is to cut it off and use for scrap, buy a good hitch bolt it up and b good to tow

Yeah I had a trailer hitch that sounds like yours and was welded on the frame. I cut it off and got rid of that funky thing lol.

Yeah it seems to be welded to the one support that needs to be removed in order to install an under the bed gas tank

Looks like you have some cutting in your future.

Doesn't look like the strongest set-up anyway. Fairly light angle iron for the cross frames.

Re: Trailer hitch on CST

That's ok. It only gives me more of a reason to cut out that support and to do an under cab fuel tank swap!
