Wipers have a mind of there own??

Every time I turn on my ignition, my wipers cycle a few times like I have hit the squirters. You know how if you just tap the windshield wiper squirt button, your wipers cycle a few times.
This is everytime I turn on the ignition

The previous owner said there may be a short in the wiper switch? I have bought a new wiper, cruise, turn signal lever, but I just wanted to run this by the group before I tear into my steering column.

this seems to be a regular accurance on our trucks... my truck use to keep going after you turned them off.. replaced the switch.. not they will cycle about ever 12 min while driving contiuously..sometimes...rarely its hard to make it stop... a bad ground i believe.. but never taken the time to look into it.. its funny to see peoples faces when my wipes just start going and my hands done move.. they think my truck has a Demon! LMAO

it happened on my truck and it was definately the wiper switch i replaced it and no more problem hell the ford ranger even had a recall about that several years ago

Faulty wiper club

Hello, my name is Chris.................and I have faulty wipers
(group says........hello Chris) :whine:

DRASTiK 03-29-2003 01:46 PM

can I join in too? I just replaced my switch and lever, and still have NO wipers at all. I replaced the switch mainly because my turn signals didn't work correctly and my lever was broken. Unfortunately this didn't fix my problem of no wipers.

Man!, What do you do when it rains?:(

Hope you have other means of trans.

i'm in the club too. mine will run for 10 min and then shut off and not come back on unless the truck sits for an hour. wipers suck!

swervin ervin 03-29-2003 10:13 PM

Sounds like some of you have bad motors to me, especially Ryan.

CRRoy71 03-29-2003 11:02 PM

My wipers work great when I want them to, the problem is they also work when I don't want them to :p

apstguy 03-29-2003 11:21 PM

Hey! Welcome to the club! From what I have come up with it is one of two things: the delay control module is fried or the windshield washer pump is dead (if you unplug it, it causes more problems). I'm going to replace both. I'm tired of my windshield being streaky!!!!!

That sounds exactly like mine, any idea what's causing it?

By the way, where is Benbrook?

racedvl 03-30-2003 03:06 PM

Mine cycle once if I put it in low 1. That's in the burb though.

DRASTiK 03-30-2003 03:09 PM

well luckily here in Yuma, it doesn't rain much at all. But I'm going to have to see if the motor is getting power or not when the switch is turned on, and then go from there. Personally I think that the new arm I just installed isn't the correct one. Hopefully I'll figure it out soon.

Welcome to the club...

Got the same problem.
Wipers work whenever I don't want them to work !
The "pipi" pump does not work either...
:o Thought of changing the switch , resolved the problem for now , pulling out the connection , till it rains again.
Just getting a little wet sometimes...

Its the module under the steering column. Little black box with
silver fins. My delays did same thing. (actually no delay)Bought a used delay module off ebay. Delays work but I can toot my horn and my wipers cycle. LOL

Mine seem have a mind of their own too.
