Oil gauge pegged out

Hey guys. The oil gauge on my '84 Silverado goes to 60 lbs. at idle. This is a recent problem. I'm running a 190 hp GM crate motor so I don't have a clue about the oil pump. I'm assuming stock? Could this be a sending unit prob? It is the original gauge. Thanks for any help. I'm at work and may not get to respond to any answers right away... sorry.

Could be a sending unit problem or the engine has a high volume oil pump. Put a real gauge on it and eliminate all doubt.

mine does the same at idle then goes to around 40 when running down the road.
I have a stock gauge with a high volume pump. The ideal thing would be to put in a 90lb gauge.

You could plug in a gauge right off then sending unit or just to check it , remove the sending unit and plug in a manually gauge. I replace mine electric gauge with a manually one, i never trusted the electric ones.

Thanks for all the help guys. Where would be a good place to screw in a gauge if I wanted to get my true pressure?

Same place as the sending unit would be fine...

Yes, that is a good place. then you just as well run the copper under the dash and hook up a real gauge ;)
